Once automotive companies invest in dct which has the reliability of a manual but the efficiency of an automatic, we will continue to see these over engineered china inferior garbage continue to fail.

I've been driving trucks since 2003...not nearly as long as some of you. When I began fishing, pulling small boats decided I needed one. Bought a new 2003 Ford Ranger with the 4.0 V6 - loved that freaking truck...zero issues. In 2011 bought a new Tacoma, 4 door, V6 - was ok, pulled fine but the ride sucked. Got a bigger boat and decided I needed a full size truck. Got a new 2014 F150 with the 5.0 - put 110K miles on it...zero issues. Then in 2021 got another F150 with the 5.0...they're great motors. In 2023 the wife and I got back in the camping business - decided I needed a 3/4 ton truck...assumed I'd get the F250 with the 7.3...drove 2 trim levels...XLT and Lariat...didn't like either. Went with the Chevy, 6.6/10 speed - 14 months with it...so far so good. Pulls 8K bumper pull very well, real test will come next year when we step up to a 5th wheel. The ride is crap in the Chevy - understand it's a stiff frame, but so far very impressed with the motor.

Most body panels are replaced in an accident..example. fender damage... cost to repair with body work and hours $200. Price to replace said fender with aftermarket $130. They just replace and spray. Pretty much replace anything front end like hood, fenders, and bumper cover. Where they try and repair is doors(depending on damage), roof, and rear quarters. Aluminum is harder to PDR then steel. They have to heat it up in order for it to hold.
Yup I agree and get body panels replacement regarding accidents I'm talking minor door dings,hail.... aluminum doesn't have memory like steel panels my guys could pop out a door ding that didn't break the paint for $25 per ding vs 100's of $ replacing aluminum sheet metal. I get the concept of aluminum truck bodies to reduce vehicle weight for fuel economy but the added cost ($800 f150 trucks last time I compared Ford base truck prices but been a few years tho aluminum really jacked up the base price...

F150’s haven’t had lockout hubs since 1997……..yah know, like 28 years ago 🤣. Didn’t you use to sell cars and trucks, albeit GM but still……..
Fyi yes code word GM not f.o.r.d
Seems like yesterday, your day is coming ( old age)

The trucks on the lots today have a bigger chance of a big failure than any of the trucks from 10-15 years ago. Reliable and bullet proof is not a description of any of those trucks
I’ve been half-heartedly looking @ pickups again. I think if a person’s #1 concern is longevity w/just normal maint., then a gas 3/4-1 Tn is the way to go. Best I can tell, they’re the “simplest” pickups on the road.

Of course the downside is they’re not going to get 20MPG+ on the highway like the 1/2Tn models. They ride quite a bit rougher than 1/2Tn models. They’re kind of a pain if you have to daily-drive them in town.

After having 3/4 ton Chevy and Ford in the 70's and early 80's. And the ride that they had. Any modern or newer pickup rides like a dream compared to them. They rode like lumber wagons. I had a 1979 Chevy with a 6 inch suspenion lift and 2 inch body lift. And 40 inch monster mudders on it. Now that was rough.

They look cool from the outside but am not going back to:

Bench seats
No AC
AM radio (I could probably get by w/that)
Manual choke
Carburator
No AC
The TINY cab ( they’re narrow and short)
No AC
Noise
Dust
No AC
Points in the Dist cap
3-spd Auto or 4WD manual (I want significant OD)
No AC
< 250HP from the 300 6 to the 460 V-8
No AC

I think some of us are suffering from selective memory.
Allen i agree. I love the AC, heated seats, heated steering wheel, AC seats,etc...it s just nice when things were "simpler'

Bought a new truck in 2020. When I got to the finance manager he started pushing extended warranties. When I said no: "Are you sure? There's a lot of electronics that are very expensive to repair." My response: "Your salesman just got done telling me it was the best truck ever made. So tell me - which one of you is lying?" Cue uncomfortable squirming around in chair.
