Or how about they get out of bed so we don't have to come back and clean up the mess after we have been up for four hours before the city or state even get out of the god damn bed. A better job isn't hard to do but I guess we have people who operate equipment vs just drivers
I don't run a plow residentially, I do it for the county roads, but I used to run plow in the city. I had people bitch at me because I plowed to early and woke them up, people bitched I plowed to late and covered their drives, people bitched I plowed to much or not enough. If your so pissed about shoveling a damn driveway for an hour why don't you go fill out an application and show me the right way to run a plow truck. And for the record when I worked at the city I started plowing at 3am, now I start at 6 for the county, I doubt you have been up for 4 hours prior

We start at 2am when it snows with 6 938 cats, 3 950, and 4 skid steers a blade if need be and if shit gets real we have 3 980 and a komatsu. I get pissed at the shit job that is done then we have to go and clean up the poorly attempted clean up. So doubt all you want while your still sleeping we are cleaning

every job takes criticism. snow removal is no different. i live out of town. so, this doesn't affect me much. but, in my opinion, the issue of blocking driveways by not putting the arm down (if equipped of course) is a legitimate gripe. that's what its for. use it. by not doing so, you essentially insure that the job you just did will look like shit hours later because 9 times out of 10 the homeowner is going to push that snow right back into the street you just cleaned.

Ive been impressed with the plows in Bismarck this year. Both big storms the plows have basically left me nothing to clean in front of my driveway or even mailbox. They tend to push the snow up right before the driveway then go past with the gate and lift it once they get past my mail box.

With all the snow this time, when they pushed it up on the boulevards they completely buried all the sidewalks under 10-15' piles of snow. Myself and my neighbors all kind of agreed that it would be impossible to clear the sidewalks and they are now out of commission for the winter. If someone wants to complain about it, ill "Ro Sham Bo" them!

Personally, I would much rather have a sidewalk cleaning ordinance have a stipulation that where city can announce to forego the snow off sidewalks within 48 hours when we receive so much snow. Even in my community, the city has only cleared off SOME of the walking paths or sidewalks. After the first storm they pushed the snow right onto the sidewalks by the cemeteries and now it's really piled up on the sidewalk. At least in communities like Bismarck, many streets have about a 4 foot grass patch between sidewalk and curb to put snow on. My city are so engineering brilliant that sidewalks are right along the curb. So when they plow they try not to put on sidewalks, which means narrow streets. Put the white stuff on my sidewalk and clear the street! Hardly anyone uses my sidewalk anyways in the winter.

Moving snow or running a blade for the county is a thankless job usually. 50% like the job you do and 50% hate everything you do. You can't win. All you can do is just do your job the best you can and to hell with the complainers.
Thanks to all the workers out there trying to get the streets opened and then widening them out. ;:;bowdown

I have ran snow removal for the past couple years in my town. Nothing beats going to work at midnight and getting home at 4 or 5 in the morning. To top all that off the lady who lives next to the shop gets mad when we park the machinery and wake her up.

I for one REALLY appreciate the plow drivers. We'd be S.O.L in a big way out here with the random 7 foot snow drifts that cross the roads. THANKS BOYS!!!! When I lived in Fargo, sidewalks were kind of a fetish for me. I actually enjoyed firing up the blower and going around the block clearing the sidewalks. Been known to go around a couple blocks a time or two as we lived by a school and I didn't like watching them youngins struggle through the snow trying to get an education. Got more home made cookies and coffee than a grown man should be allowed to have in one day too!!! In 96-97 my Dad and I would run blowers in tandem. Wish we had some pics of the "Beardcicles" we would get!! Hang tough out there you westernites!! That amount of snow just plain SUCKS!!!

every job takes criticism

No truer words ever spoken. Try working for the Fed gov once. #@#$#%# politicians force you to do something stupid, then a new president and Congress make you do the opposite and everyone hates you. I worked for USGS, but the center I worked at had been USFWS and kept their name. Then my cousin would chew my ass because he didn't get his deer license. Deer license what the heck has USGS have to do with deer license? Well, your all the same outfit. WHAT?

Thanks espringers. Got to like a man who actually has perspective.

Maybe some counties are good but Walworth county in Sodak has horrible management. They have a blade parked in Mobridge make the operator drive to Selby then back to Mobridge..... They have plowed my road once all winter it is a busy paved road hopefully with new commissioners coming in they can fix the stupidity.

anyone here from Devils Lake? notice the biggest and busiest intersection in the town, highway 2 and 20, is still pretty much missing the entire southbound lane of 20? and part of the east bound lane of highway 2? 5 days later! turns out the city is responsible for that intersection these days.

Hell Bismarck expressway is just a fucked up two lane at this point. The outside lanes come and go with that latter being more common then the former. Spookiest thing here are many intersections a guy can't see on coming traffic until you get your nose a few feet out into the intersection even with full sized pickups due to huge piles of snow on the corners.

I deliver to Starkweather twice a week and was shocked that 20 still hasn't been cleaned yet.

Fishing must be too good to find time to clean snow. :::

This makes me made to, people are so dumb, if the plow/blade operator stopped and tooked the time to make sure no snow got piled up at the the end of the driveways it would triple the time it takes them to get the streets cleaned, then these dummys would bitch about that.

This is what we are doing now we get the snow to the curb then clean every driveway. it took two 12 hour shifts to clean one Neighbor hood in my unit. up north a 12 hour shift and they get 5 streets done
