Carnival Sensation. Leave Miami this Thursday.

- - - Updated - - -

Really debating whether to get the drink package $490/4 days for my wife and I. That's a lot of money in booze, but I'm a NoDak kid and if drink are $10 a pop, they'll be paying me. Wanna get tuned up, but not spring break drunk.

hope this isnt your ship

puking and spraying diarrhea all over the boat sounds like a good time

My wife and I took one the first year we were married.

And because of it, I'll never get on a boat I cant fish off ever again.

It was the worst 5 days of my life. The boat was filled with loud mouth people from the east coast, then having to be told when to eat, what to wear and who to sit with, expensive drinks, and worthless half-ass "entertainment" and somehow I still feel like it was a success simply because we didn't come down with dysentery.

Pace yourself when it comes to eating or all you'll want to do afterwards is take a nap. By the time you wake up, it's time to eat again. It can be a vicious cycle. Stay out of the casinos on the ship. I've never met anyone who has actually won any money while gambling on a cruise ship. I booked a fishing charter in key West. Forget who it was through, but we caught a ton of fish (including a bonnethead shark, which was kinda fun) and had a blast. If you get sea sick, bring Dramamine patches. Don't get sunburned. Don't forget to just relax and enjoy your vacation. There's lots to do on the ship and while in port. The trip will go fast and be over before you know it.

Fact:

1. when at sea -- and spending 20 or a 24 hour day outside - you can drink your self silly (no limits on NCL) and your head will feel awesome; no allergies, no congestion, no pressure, no hassles. Dont over eat in fact under eat - - and party like a rock star!!

2. NCL you can pick free internet or a drink package (or four other packages)---comes with the ship price. No have to sign up for dinner at a certain time -- its just like restuarants in town. You go and eat -- if you go at baby boomer time (the from 6-7) you wait in line -- otherwise if your used to eating in town - you go at a time that everybaby boomer and his kid isnt filling their face (in other words you think outside the box).

3. Party -- you always have to have the morning buzz -- get going early, break at 1pm, take a siesta, the afternoon is when it stars rolling again pace your self --- then eat a little something for supper -- this is where most make a mistake - they hog all day and sit on the shitter all night. Pace pace. nod off after supper while watching the sun set. Then have a nice cup of coffee -- then at 1030 - party is on. Show up the 20 somethings -- go to bed at 3 wake at 7 do it all over again. Tequila is your friend while at sea --- crown is your enemy.

Sounds fun if I was 22 again and looking for some stray box or a professional drunk. If I have to plan a drinking schedule is it really a vacation?

I've always wanted to go on one, but still trying to convince the wife it's a good idea. Maybe this time next year. I've heard good and bad, but more good. Same with any public entity whether it be cruising, flying, train, uber, hotel, some are shit, some are great, most are adequate. It's what you make of it.

living in upper Midwest one of the most difficult things about cruises is getting there, it almost takes an extra day of travel there and back to make sure you are at the port on time. if you are taking kids Disney Cruise is hands down the best. Carnival and Royal Caribbean are hit and miss. I have not heard anything bad about Norwegian cruise lines.

Like anything else to each their own, however if you want to drink and enjoy the sunshine a carribean all inclusive resort is a much better option. If we were to do a cruise again I would probably do an Alaskan cruise and save the winter vacation for a beach resort.

Do you start tapering toward the end of the trip or just detox when you get back home? Asking for a friend.

Got home last night. Thanks everybody for the tips. My wife and I did splurge in the drink package. We made money on that. Holy schnikies for sugar drinks. Our teeth hurt after the first day. From there I went to crown on rocks and beer. Cruise was fun the Islanders sure harrassed us when we left ship. And not one wanted to barter. So we didn't come home with a single souvenir. Did find out that my wife gets sea sick. Good thing we had Dramamine.
I pretty much took in the sun, drank, read, and listened to metal. It was great to decompress after completing my prelims.

Glad you had fun! I went on a cruise in my teens. My high school sweetheart and I went with her folks and little brother. Snuck some booze when we could, but otherwise it was pretty boring for a couple horny kids who wanted to do nothing else but to get betwixt the sheets and couldn't thanks to little bro being on our heels at all times. I would have personally rather spent four days on a beach somewhere than all that time on a boat with a few small excursions to beaches.

The worst part (other than serious blue balls) was visiting Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas. Looked great in pictures, and that Atlantis resort was sure neat (if we wanted to pay to go on anything, which we didn't) but walking the streets was literally third world. I remember thinking a bomb had gone off or there was a war or something. If we would have stayed near Atlantis or the boat I think it would have been better. We couldn't get back to the boat fast enough.
