This issue comes from the food service industry. It depends on the type of cup/glass. Plastic glasses used in like restaurants have the little plastic strips that prevent the glasses from sealing against each other, allowing water to drain and the glassess to dry while stacked in the cup down position. Coffee cups are normally stored in flats, cup down, and not stacked. Food services are required to store glasses and cups cup down to keep them clean and dry.

What you do at home is up to you. I hate a musty/moldy smelling cup or glass so I prefer cup up.

the ultimate solution is those silicone coated mesh mats mom uses on her shelves

cup down, breathable, hygienic

I've never really found the time to contemplate such an issue! LOL

Open down in our house and I was in the food industry for many years.

Lincoln, kinda...
Down, unless they are wet.

I should get some of those meshed mats for in the counter so they can always go that way.

I have never in my life, thought as much about the whole "up or down" cup debacle as I have in the past 24 - 48 hours. It's ridiculous. I can't sleep. I can't work. (I did have a very good ribeye however, two nights ago). My life is on hold!

I'm going to go home at lunch and throw away all of our "drinkware", and buy 5000 environment killing Styrofoam cups. Who's up for some chloroflourocarbons?

anybody who owns a camper and isn't using that mesh should change their last name to Van Winkle.

mrs johnr stores our glassware down, and the coffee cups up. Her method is just fine in my cupboards. They are generally dry once taken out of the dishwashing machine.

Anyone know why the little arrow thing under the topics on the side bar doesnt take me to the last unread message anymore? Quit working a few weeks ago I think... On both my computers!
