Spring survey documents 29% decline in western North Dakota mule deer​

Game and Fish conducts the spring mule deer survey to assess mule deer abundance in the Badlands. It is conducted after snowmelt and before trees begin to leaf out.​

They shouldn't even have a whitetail season in our area. 90% less whitetails then 3 years ago, its sad.

Most likely a pipe dream based on what I saw ALL WINTER here at the fort and talking to others from around the state. Deep snow in a long winter isn't a good recipe for lots of fawns. Talked to a rancher that spoke of quite a few aborted fawns in and around his hay piles in the last weeks of winter. Not good.

My area will still have an over abundance of whitetails and I hope the small herd of mule deer did well to. Good cover and fair food suppy along with a few alfalfa bales and some corn made them fair well.
