3rd year denial for me and the daughter, 6th year denial for the boy. I think it's going to be difficult to keep our next generation interested in deer hunting if they can't hunt. Probably have to look into out of state opportunities or trade the guns off for some bows.
Have you thought about a different unit or second choice doe in easy unit. If a guy wants to hunt you pretty much can. I got my first choice this year, but my second choice was 100% draw if i wouldn't have. Where there is a will, there is a way.

eastern Montana (region 7) has thousands of leftover muley doe tags and tons of public land and block management, can buy several per/person at $75 each, maybe a option for some, I know its not horns but good freezer filler for not a ton of cash

yes, I know 2 guys that drew whitetail buck tags on 2nd choice . theres 4-5 units out west that are 100% draw or close to it for whitetail buck

had 8 points and now will have 9 years. Will be 71, getting prostrate check on with high number may not make it for another tag but have not applied for a whitetail rifle permit since 95.

I assume the mule deer season will be cancel anyways due to dry conditions so those who got a license will now start over and I kept my old point. Then I thought one (for a number of years) could shoot his muzzle loader deer with a bow. I guess I need to learn the rules.
So I am one of the lucky ones. Hopefully on Wednesday to.
Plots all look good even with the hail. Brassicas just started coming out of the ground and with a little rain the other day they will get a good start. About two weeks earlier this year. Camera has been great to me for the picture they have sent this year. Will start working on my arm strength for the bow as I had a rotary cup tear (damn when one gets old). db

Almost shit my pants when I got the email. My wife, oldest daughter and myself all got buck tags. I know where all my vaca hours are going to be used. Been 4- 5 years I think since any of us drew a buck tag

Personally, I think the solution to the muzzy tag problem is to put the season back to what it was originally intended for, and that is a hunt using some form of yesteryear equipment. Whether that's blackpowder with either a flintlock, or cap and ball, is open for debate. BUT, the 200 yard shooting modern in-lines is why you can't draw a muzzy tag.

I know I picked up muzzy hunting to harken back and enjoy a time where it was more important to be a good hunter than it was to have the bestest of equipment.

And the only time I've ever gotten to use it is with the extra doe tags of years past. With 4 or 5 preference points, "we" lost about 5 or 6 preference points in a SNAFU between NDGF and I, so it's probably going to be 15 years from the purchase of my muzzleloader to when it actually gets used to chase a buck in ND.

I started getting ready last year! Now if we can keep EHD from rearing it's ugly head.

BTW, you will really like the muley I saw out there last year if he survived. While he belongs on MY wall, we'll have to see what we can do about getting you a shot at him, he's a real dandy buck.

3b3 must be near 100% draw on whitetail buck tags since all three in my party drew one without any preference points.

I'm going to do what I've witnessed the past three seasons now: Camp out in the local deer hole with my bow on rifle opener day, shoot a buck at first light, let it lay for about four hours, and then march around at noon making a racket because F everyone else and their daggum tags!!!

Thanks, didn't realize that. Still pretty wild how popular the muzzy tags are....3 different reasons I can think of...
1. Still can be the tail end of the rut
2. Cold/snowy years, the deer can be yarded up by that time and easy to kill with a gun.
3. Lack of and hard to draw rifle tags

O power scopes take some getting used to. Deer seem farther away and you can see the end of your barrel. I can on mine anyway.
