I hate mice, Especially when they invade my territory. I know how to poison and trap them but how can you deter them from farm vehicles that seldom get driven ? I don't want to poison them in the vehicles because I don't want dying in there and stinking Lots of advice online but behind every remedy I read about there are people claiming the product doesn't work. Has anyone found anything that works ?

I haven't had very good luck with dryer sheets. Moth balls just plain stink.

I use CabFresh inside anything that will be susceptible to invasion by meces. I make sure and add new ones every month and its worked wonders. Not cheap though.

Another overlooked item is your boats prop hub. pack that sucker with steel wool or you could have a real mess!

Have heard, spraying bleach around on the ground works, but you have to keep doing it every once in awhile. Mice have no bladder, so they are constantly peeing, so they follow each others pee trail (by scent), and they can't smell the pee because of the bleach. Don't know if this is true, but its what I've heard.

I'm not stingy on the dryer sheets(120 per vehicle, spread out), I use moth balls in the boat, and I place the tomcat poison bars in the far corners of the building. And any mouse that enters the building, is usually dead before it can reach the boat or other vehicles.

another idea:

http://fivegallonideas.com/bucket-mouse-trap/

in the five gallon bucket idea, use water in the summer and RV antifreeze in the winter. Also, crimp the wire on both sides of the can to keep the can in the center of the 5/6 gallon bucket.

I have had good luck with these in the RVs I have owned. Smear some peanut butter on the inside. I will check it from time to time. At least if one is there and dies, you can get rid of it if it stinks. It will keep catching until it fills up too.

I've used these with great success outside my house as my house is exposed to an open field/vacant lot to the north. I usually put sticky traps inside these but one winter forgot to. And forgot to check them. It was packed full of dead mice in the spring when I checked it. GROSS!!

I usually dispose of the sticky traps once a mouse is in it or check it weekly.

When I think back and put 2 and 2 together the dryer sheets did work but I relied on them to be a cure all. Last spring I found a nest in my pickup so I cleaned everything out good and put half a dozen dryer sheets in and set traps and kept an eye on it for a couple months and no mice so I sort of forgot about it. Found traces of mice in there again today , Put more dryer sheets in and a zip lock bag full of them in the pickup so they are handy. Going to get the trap that Captain suggested for the motorhome , They look like a slick deal.

Drier sheets only last a few weeks and the smell is gone and then they make bedding out of them.
On rv's find as many holes as possible and stuff them with steel wool to keep them out in the first place.
Cab fresh has been awesome for many years in our equipment on the farm and in the country, smells like potpourri of sorts is strong but nothing like moth balls and it does work well and lasts for about a year.

Bounce and urinal pucks, I get them from a janitorial supply place and they go in every combine, tractor, boat etc.. not half as bad as moth balls but seems to be as effective. Put some bleach in a gallon hand sprayer and spray it everywhere on the concrete in the building you're storing things in, we've always done it, not sure how effective it is by itself but it seems to help.

I used these back on the farm and they work great. Put them along a wall and by doorways.
Used them in town under our porch and back by our utility box in the back yard.

Moth balls work great too but leave that strong smell.
If you can pour moth balls around your tires and jack, anywhere mice could crawl up to get into your camper or vehicle.

Fresh Cab and dry sheets are how we close out the camper

I should add to this. The first year we moved into our house, I had caught over 20 mice a week for the first 2 or 3 months. SOOO I expect mice to get into everything. After dropping the population, I have still had mice in my shed which has gotten into food plot seed, motorcycle helmet, and almost anything fabric. Worse was when the little bastards built a nest on top of my wife's car fuel tank and nibbled a hold in the breathing line. SOBs cost my 200 on that one. I expect them to get into the camper, but 4 yrs running they haven't. Fresh cab and dryer sheets......

Stored my Mustang in a barn for many winters, and just load it up, inside and out, with dryer sheets. I have never had a problem. I put them EVERYWHERE though. In the exhaust, under the hood, under seats, under dash, around the headers, glovebox, every single place I can think of. And each spring, it is still good.

On an unrelated note, I nabbed two buck voles in my front yard yesterday with a sticky trap. Yay for me!
