Brother and his buddy are thinking of coming over from Idaho ice fishing this winter and looking at guides on devils lake. Who would be good ones dont know if they want to go the sleeper shack route or snow bears. They drug all there stuff here last year and we fished oahe but want to try something different this year.

They are just in the early stages of planning some thing. Its going to be end of Jan begging of Feb i think. Its not a set in stone with a guide just throwing ideas out. I have only fished in the summer there and that was 18 years ago so narrowing it down where to go would be where a guide would help alot i think

i would recommend the SnoBear route. Devils Lake is commonly known as a fish movement lake. Fished out of a Snobear last winter and we probably moved 6-8 times. Caught a fish or 2 at each spot and then found a spot where we finished our limit in short order.

DL is over-rated for ice fishing IMO. It might be tough to be successful in a sleeper. Best to be able to stay mobile.

Curious if your bro fishes Cascade? I've always thought about chasing perch there.

Dave Randash is very personable and his effort level is unmatched. Very consistent producer and will listen to clients wishes. No one better at Devils.

Ya they go there all the time. The shows make it look a lot better than it is you might catch one of those big perch a day. The slush is a constant battle a guy had his four wheeler with tracks stuck on the lake all winter . Most the time they walk on and drag the stuff on sleds.

Last winter his friend came with him out here and he said going back to cascade is a major disappointment. Nice views though

I did K &M out of new Rockford last year, it’s the snow bear route but it was a great time. But the bite on devils lake was dead, so he took us to a different lake and we limited out on perch. We did three days, first two we limited perch that were decent sized but not monsters. Final day we went to devils lake and we marked fish but they didn’t bite a ton, still caught 3 perch and 4 walleye but not great. But overall I’d definitely recommend them. Guides were nice and fun, so was a great time.

Have fished with Woodlands (in ice houses) and Bry's Guide service (in snow bears).

I liked the snow bear route best.

As said in earlier posts, Devils Lake is feast or famine.

Never heard of them but if you are fishing out of those beasts around New Town you are fishing the very few community holes with easy access and not chasing fish that's for sure.
That sounds exactly what my brothers friend wants to do. He has never stayed out on the ice in a big shack and that was on top of his list catch a couple fish will make him plum happy. They rented it jan6th-10th. I do enough chasing fish down here so going and hanging out for a couple days doesnt bother me

Finding fish on Devils Lake is fairly easy. Finding fish that will bite, that's another story.
I agree once the fish start moving to deeper water and start feeding on salt water shrimp it becomes more difficult to find active fish. Thats why earlier the better is key to fishing devils, and there are less snobears and vehicles out
