Dogs that don't stay in their yards aren't good dogs to have around. In the area that I hunt, their is a landowner agreement that roaming dogs are dealt with extreme prejudice, even if it is recognized.[/QUOTE]

Sounds like a good way to start another Hatfield's and McCoy's.

Cats are a tool that are an important part of the farm. A few years ago it was almost unheard of to spend money on a cat to neuter or spay them so I have taken a few out myself on a selective basis. Nowadays, I have rules before I let a cat on the farm so cats are no longer a dime a dozen to me. It has to be spayed or neutered, good around kids and a good mouser. Any cat worth less than that is not worth having around IMO. where I have a problem is dum fuks that think they are doing me and the rest of the world a favor by shooting every cat in the neighborhood. We had another one shot last fall but I was lucky enough that it wasn't the greatest cat in the world and we had a spare so it really didn't hurt my feelings too bad, Had it been my new one I wouldn't be quite so humble with my opinion on this subject. Comparing an infested naval base or abandon buildings in town to a farm out in the country is a piss poor comparison at best. Feral cats that I have happen to get a glimpse of were on a dead run and gone before I could have taken a shot , Tame ones will hang around and be an easy target. How about we have a 400 yard rule for dogs because they might be feral and chasing deer or eating nesting birds or eggs. If you don't know what your target is don't pull the trigger.

Cat with a collar gets a pass from me....

I am with you on that one John. Not into killing anything for no good reason.
Not trying to dig but I just cringe big time when I see guys running down big cats with dogs as well, to me in my little bean brain that is just flat out immoral. Only reason I would see it being feasible is if it has caused damage or been a known rogue animal causing imminent danger issues to which I have never seen or heard of here in ND.

Oh boy, so you would support a bill banning the use of dogs for hunting? If not then you don't think much of your own morals therefore I don't either. If you would stick to your "morals" then you are a "Cannibal and useful idiot".

They must not like their dogs very much. I couldn't imagine having coffee with my neighbors and saying: "Hey, if you see my dog running around away from my farm, I would like you to kill it and if I see yours out and about I will kill it too." "Now who would like a doughnut?"

A week later:

Rancher #1: "Yeah I saw your dog Toby out running around a ways away from your farm so I crushed him in the skull with my 30-06." "There was red mist everywhere." "You are welcome."

Rancher #2: "Oh thank you so much for killing him." "He was my son's favorite dog and I liked him too, but an agreement is an agreement." "I can't wait to get a chance to test out my new .270 WSSM on your dog when he gets a little ways from your house."
"I am glad we can do each other such favors!"

Not going to debate, it is my personal opinion is all and I do not believe things like this need laws. If I witnessed a pack of unleashed dogs running down any other 4 legged animal then those dogs are my primary target hands down period end of story.

I can't really speak for them but I assume the agreement was reached sometime after downed calf was chewed with a red mouthed pooch standing by or perhaps a herd of sheep was killed for sport with the same dog all smiles. They don't take any pleasure in it smartass.

Relax Ghost. Just trying to understand the "agreement" as it seems quite odd. Wasn't trying to point it at you personally.

I got a chuckle this fall when I was reminded about the guy on here wondering about hunting with a cat. I was in the yard changing fuel filters on my backhoe and the cat was sitting on top of the hood hoping for a little attention. It jumped up on the top of the cab and was looking towards the pond. I could tell it was interested in something down there the way it was staring, I looked and didn't see anything but I knew something still had the cats full attention when I finished so when I looked again and still didn't see anything When I started walking away, I looked back and saw a little buck take off running. True story.

Its fun to watch how animals tune into their surroundings, from watching my dogs and cats the cats will most always be tuned into something long before the dogs notice it, my own dogs will watch the cats and when they see the cats posturing indicate something odd then they will spring into action but only if they notice the cats zoned in first.

Looks like a lot of people need a stiff drink and the weekend to arrive quickly.

From what I've read: I don't live on a farm/in a rural setting but I know how important it is to have a mouser around. My brothers' inlaws have some manx cats that put a hurting on mice and even the occasional raccoon. Those of you that spay or neuter your cats, thank you. Unchecked populations are always a problem, regardless of species.

Haha, No harm meant . My cat has trouble with words so somebody has to stick up for him. And me, I don't beat around the bush and agree with everything I hear or read. It would get pretty boring around here if everybody agreed on 100% of everything 100% of the time.

Bah, in town a cat should be on a leash, just like a dog. Or not let it out. Or if it gets out and gets run over, then it's the owner's fault.

As a cat owner, I take responsibility for my possessions and my household.

I don't think it's cool though to drive around looking for cats to shoot, as I'm sure some people do - much less "accidentally" arrowing one, in town, while target practicing.

I have friends that hound hunt lions with dogs it is fun. If you are fat and out of shape it is not something that would be enjoyable. Cool thing is you tree a cat that you don't want to kill don't have to kinda the closest to catch and release hunting there is. I see it no different than a lab cbasi g a pheasant to fly . only difference is lions can't fly if they could that would be scary.

My neighbor walks her cat on a leash. When it's warm out, she takes it into the empty lot by that church an lets it chase one of them feather on a stick thingies. It's hilarious.
