Early winter?

Back in summit county (Breckenridge Colorado) for labor weekend,stocking up firewood from new ski tails cut. Signs of early winter aspens yellowing,last night glassing red mountain from my deck (14000') elk herds bugeling moving from the high country heading to the valley already, light snow cover above tree line....

not here high 90's and lows in the 70's to hot to dove hunt in the evenings. Ready for some frost

The aspens are yellow due to lack of rain. Happens early with dry summers.

And the skiff of snow above treeline? All the years ive lived in summit county (since 1976) I've never seen or herd elk migrate this early,bugeling yes usually starts late August. Not ready for early winter if this is a sign

Good point, rat houses,don't see them like years b4 in mn, no muskrats in the high country but plenty of beaver (houses) wonder why?

Easy to trap muskrats and wipe em out in a very timely manner when prices are worth it but thats been years it seems..(Know I sure enjoyed it until a stinky minky showed up in a trap lol)

Beaver trapping on the other hand looks like a lot more work but sure fun watching YouTube videos of trappers that take the time to do it. Both are more then enough of nuisances when it comes to ruining roads and waterflow though.

Trees are going early all over up high from what I’ve seen and heard. Dry is the reasoning I’ve been told. Still looking pretty warm in the long term. Time will tell what the so called super El Niño will bring.
