I swear to all that is Holy, not through personal experience (thank goodness), but I have heard more and more about sacrificial underwear, etc just in the past 10 yrs.

Seriously, a couple paper towels do wonders. WTF?

I agree, they are golden unless you don't have them when you need them .

My Gerber Multi-Tool is on every belt that I wear.
Even wear it to Church. Never leave home without it.
It has come in handy way more than I can count or remember.

I shit off the side of a picnic table in a park when I was doing a long run training for marathon. It was winter and the bathrooms were closed. Bye bye socks….

PS: MRE peanut butter and crackers WILL take care of the need to shit indefinitely. In fact it works so well impacted feces has been pulled out in the field by corpsman. You either shit yourself or hold it on a stalk. I preferred “holding” it

That’s no shit…..😬

I retired 3 years ago and got to talking to neighbors about the jalapeño cheese spread. I might have to run up to the commissary and see if they still sell the individual MRE’s. For old times sake

Of all things I never leave for a trip without Duc Tape. It also makes a great Fire Starter Used it a lot While on a 30 day back pack hunt up in the NWT also held my boots together when the rocks started chewing them up. And I have taped up the dogs feet from cactus and cuts

I absolutely love this topic.

Gets my mind thinking about Bug-Out Bags. What could you stash in a bag that would keep you alive as long as possible but also at a moment's notice?

I think there are a gazillion articles and forums dedicated to Bug-Out Bags and prepping. I think as I get older, there's wisdom in all of it as you go about your hunts.

Less is more -- but only if what you have works when you need it.

I agree with pretty much everything said on this thread, everything has a purpose...but when you are prepared for all possibilities you are also bordering on being overloaded.

One thing is for sure as I get older, I am somewhat amazed and thankful that for all my adventuring (hunting and fishing in what were sometimes some very hazardous weather) that I have never suffered a serious injury or killed myself. I was thinking of this even more over the past week as I thought of that fella who's been missing in TR National Park's North Unit. He hasn't yet been found, but having been missing since July 19th, the mind tends to wonder what the heck happened to him.
