And it shows with the lack of respect in today's whining and entitled society. When you did wrong back then you got whacked. You hoped mom and dad wouldn't find out. Parents thanked the teachers for doing it then. Nowadays they sue.

You guys had dirt bikes and three wheels??? I had a horse, a dog, a pet raccoon and at seven years old a bolt action Marlin. None of the old cars behind the shelter belt had hoods because you loaded them up with kids and pulled them behind horses, cars, tractors or anything that would get them moving.
I would like to see one of today's tough boys try using an outhouse 100 yards from the house, at midnight, at 20 below zero.

Yep dad a boomer told me they had no bathroom facilities in his house until he was a teenager, either you used the outhouse or slop bucket to do your business.
Rowdie it wasn't supposed to be that way, but families were changing since now Sundays were open for business and woman were being encouraged to work from home with the encouragement of the government. Daycares were not something readily available then and so my mom, who stayed home,watched over some local children whose parents both worked. I still remember my aunt who felt that it was unfortunate that wage increase begin to decrease because of the woman working force which made it possible for business owners the option of hiring woman who majority made less then men and could force men to make less.

That's why you here stories mentioned as to the reason why families could afford to live on a one parent salary back then and why that's not possible now.

My aunt worked in the nursing department at und for 30 years and felt it was a woman's job to stay home but with the price of living increase compared to one parent salary increase woman were being forced to work. One of the biggest mistakes causing the outcome we see today with the later generations who were raised by someone else and like rowdie said by our educational system.

I have many friends, teachers, that I went to school with that eventually retired possibly sooner then they liked because of the way the government forced to comply with discipline standards that allowed unruly children to continue to act out many timewithout h addressing the behavior.

We all know what needs to be done to bring back those teachers who have retired if they want, by bring back the traditional ways that made this country the best. The idea of a one parent salary will be something that I see will never happen unfortunately and that is one of those examples that begin the decline of the American civilization of the boomer and prior generations were so fortunate to grow up to.

We weren’t being over run by out of staters back then. It was mostly people you know that you ran into out in the field. Now if your land isn’t posted, there will not be any wildlife on it. It will be over run and pounded to shit.

Agreed unfortunately that's because other states have not put in the resources for whatever reason to sustain their own wildlife.

I blame it on less/lower number of union jobs. Back then the wife could stay home because you could afford it. The wage gap between CEO and worker was very close compared to now and alot of that was due to union jobs and contracts. If you look at economic data it clearly will show the gap when pay decreased, union membership decreased, women started working, and CEO pay vs blue colar worker pay separating. Your money also w

ent farther. I know I will get heat from this post but it does show this in the numbers. There could be other factors as well such as America being sold out to china by corporate America..NOT MOM and POP SHOPS.

I feel that mrs johnr working has giving us the opportunity to have all the excess we have. My upbringing was Dad working and Mom was a house wife. We didn't do the things mrs johnr and I do, as it wasn't in the budget.
Our household could survive on either one of us not working, however the luxuries we have come to enjoy would be gone, or at least much less.

Yes I agree johnr but your lifestyle will be a distance memory with the next generations who begin to have children. You are able to do this because you are still part of that generation we are talking about the generation that didn't live above a means and were able to save money for those goals that you wanted to fulfill. Luckily north dakota like many conservative states are full of conservative minded people that can choose to live the way our previous generations did. It's actually cheaper because everything is cheaper to produce and more options to get those cheaper products then what our generation was accustomed to. It was very common for me to receive hand me down clothing because we couldn't afford your more expensive lines of clothes but with all this freedoms, there are those who are being short handed and that is the children. Not all but majority are.

There's no going back. Once the bankers figured out they could get wealthier by having both parents of a traditional household to work, the homes and lifestyle changed. I know very wealthy people who both work where they would only need one to work but choose to work.

I’ll tell you the main reason both work, and it will piss many off. It’s easier to have someone else raise your kids than do it yourself. That should get some conversation going.
