Grandma's chicken dumpling

The big secret to my grandma's chicken and dumplings soup is of course the broth, boiling the whole chicken parts on simmer until the meat slips off the bone. Add in carrots celery onions chicken boulion and of course flour dumplings. Yummy
Oh the best way to make perfect size fluffy dumplings that don't stick to the spoon is to use a plastic coated baby spoon.

Feel free to use a pheasant...the legs aren't wasted in this manner. Read/heard throwing the feet in the pot results in a richer broth (chicken) never tried for either bird.

We make chicken soup after dining on the easy parts of rotisserie chickens from Costco, etc.

If we eat roast turkey or chicken at someone else's home we volunteer to take the ravaged carcass home - rather than them having to put it in their garbage can "where vermin or rot might make it a problem". Snicker [rubbing hands together real sneaky-like]

my in-laws do this, I have always thought them to be a bit weird and living in some post depression era where they think they will starve otherwise. They eat the liver and tongue of animals too... 🤮

Nothing better this time of year than a hearty homemade soup, and the price of soup bones is crazy…

Yes grandma said the bone is what gave the soup its rich flavor, growing up on the farm we raised and sold the broiler type chicken where it's was not uncommon for the chickens to reach 8+ pounds. The broiler rotisserie that guywhoshares mention is a much fatter plumper bird compared to the traditional leghorn variety. Turkey soup is ok especially if the Turkey has been prepared properly in regards to taste and meat tenderness. My brother is the whiz at making the turkey for he rubs soft butter under the skin and injects salt and spices directly into the thighs and legs. Not sure the of the spices but its an awesome tasting bird. But turkey is even better when it's made into the gravy for hot turkey sandwiches with homemade bread and the tators.
