For things to be humor, it must first qualify as funny.

Well I admittedly have a different sense of humor, developed by years of sarcastic friends comments, often times while trolling cranks while fishing for large musky to pickle.

Although my experience from a limited amount of fishing excursions for cat fish is that those fishermen do not have the same sense of humor for some reason.

anyways,
I hope guy was not to distracted from the pointers people were giving him by this side conversation, I have faith that someone that can skateboard at his age still can focas well enough to remember said pointers despite the distraction.

Damn, there I go again.........My apologies once again.

We had a funny man in Korea, a real jokester, up until he had his face shot off, nothing funny about that.

Funny,
I didn;t picture you being that old.

Even your jokes and explanation of said jokes are drawn out.

Guy, bring that aluma tiller west and we'll hammer on some sak walleyes while we watch Wags figure out if he wants to swim to shore or suffer with us.

GuywhoIdidn'tthinkwouldevertroll: I really think you're overthinking this. Do you have any troll control on the "Big Johnson"? I have it on my 90 Merc, and can reduce rpm's at idle by almost 300. At that I can maintain 1.2 easily (spinners/slow plugs). Have found that 2.5 to 3.5mph often works better with Shad Raps or Flicker Shads. I commonly use the bow motor to steer, and correct if needed with the big motor. Quit using bags of any kind while trolling with kids. Always getting hooked up one way or another. Still use one or two while drifting cross wise to wind with jigs instead of back trolling. I like long rods 8+ for out side plugs or planner boards, and intend to get a couple of shorties (5') for inboard. Much easier to deploy. Have you considered down riggers? Can be a blast under certain conditions. Easy to mount and use once you get used to them.

"Need video of you wife being keel hauled deploying those drift bags".

HA HA Can't imagine that ever happening but would pay big money to see it if it ever did!

From a person who's spent hundreds of hours trolling each year for at least a couple decades now you sure seem to be making something that's actually fairly simple become extremely complicated.

Boats are always a compromise. Guy is attempting to improve the tracking characteristics of a hull that while very stable due to being wide and fairly flat, doesn't track very well, for the same reason. He needs to create mechanical advantage where there is none. The bags create drag, the drag concurrently demands more throttle input. Greater throttle input = quicker reaction to tiller manipulation. The bags also keep the nose down allowing more of what little keel there is to remain submerged thus adding traction.

Will be interesting to hear the report regarding does the bow just rise more slowly or dip down the 1st time you try to get on plane with the bags still deployed.

I think he should stick to skate boarding, eating sausages, and weed. This shit is too much, next he will be bungee strapping Wags under the keel in some weed induced, fish locating adventure.

no troll control on the Johnson - which is why bags sounded good - I can always throttle up a tad

I just like REALLY to experiment - and although I've made it sound like I've never trolled but I have - quite successfully at times

I am hoping to not have to use bags 95% of the time - I threw them in as an afterthought really - I'm not expecting they'll play a role most of the time but might be a day-saver under certain conditions

for guywhoisaninventoratheart it's mostly that I am a tortured soul laying in bed and thinking "can a guy do that? do the twin bags really work? do they stay out of the way like it seems they would?, would a keel steer not preserve battery and take less aggressive turning to accomplish what I want?, how can I build one that attaches easily and stores compactly?"... it's an endless curiosity itch I have to scratch - and unlike a lot of guys who dream and don't do crap about it - I scratch that inventors itch a lot - and enjoy every second of it :D

I honestly suspect that the twin bags under the boat aren't going to cause too much trouble - they are out of reach of the tiller, the electric, and MOST fisherman - except kids as finaddict pointed out

maybe I need to start smoking weed - does it make a guy chilax and not want to invent?

IF I don't die unexpectedly I can say with confidence am going to light this thread up this summer with numerous pics of big pigs that fell victim to the Skegosaurus.

Then knowing me, after achieving Pro status trolling cranks - I'll go back to pitching and slipping whether they are biting on that or not.

At that point the Skegosaurus will go up for sale to the highest bidder.

i would find a way to have the bags tangled with the lines then into the prop with the wind blowing about 20 in to shore lined with huge rip rap. I find special ways to f stuff up like that.

Oh I have been there plenty of times. But I got the majority of those shenanigans out of the way between 25 and 45. At some point it seems like a guy has f'd up his quota of stuff, learned a whole bunch of icky lessons, and the damage toll slows down. I have to admit I drank a lot more in the boat at 25-45 too. Maybe that had something to do with it?
