Saw a guy cutting hay today. Seems a little early, but as wet as it's been...maybe he's thinking he will get a second cutting from native grasses?

Thought about registering as a sex offender to keep the neighborhood kids outta my yard. Grass was so thick it looked like the little bastards been playing Jumanji back there. Had to mow it twice, wind row it & let it dry, then go over it again with the bagger.

I wonder how many fawns and nests, etc. fall victim to early haying like that? No real way to quantify it I guess but I do wonder about it.
I quit mowing my tree rows this time of year. Put a fawn through a mower one time on a year like this and I don’t ever want to do it again.

I finished first cut alfalfa and started cutting road ditches this week. There's no way to miss a nest but I watch as close as possible for fawns and have been lucky

moisture is a great thing; raptors seem to enjoy watching hay get cut.
