Hey NDA Sak guru's, I know this is an off the wall request, but I'm in that warriors on the water thing next weekend with another vet and I have no idea where to go as I don't fish there. Feel free to PM me with any suggestions on techniques, depths, and locations. They don't even need to be walleyes. Just something to keep this guy pulling on fish. I normally jig, but this guy doesn't fish............AT ALL, so jigging would probably be an exercise in frustration for him. Casting cranks will likely be hazardous to OUR health, so we will probably do the bottom bouncer/spinner thing. Anyway, Thanks in advance for any help!!

Tight Lines Everyone!!!

There will be a few boats pre fishing and we've done some this past weekend. The Shell Village area has been decent to really good for the last two years during the event, and the deep humps in the hook have been good. We'll have a good game plan by Saturday morning on were to start. Bottom Bouncers with slow death hooks and prop rigs have been working well. 20 - 30 feet.

We'll be out there Friday, so maybe we can get out on Friday afternoon for a bit. Was going to start on that reef just outside the ramp and see what's up there. Haven't a clue where The Shell Village is, but the BB in 20-30 sure helps. I'll be the good lookin' fat guy in a Maroon Alumacraft. LOL!! Thanks!!

Shell Village is the long East to West running reef straight East of Pouch Point at what we call the south end of the Van Hook Arm about 11 miles south of the Van hook boat ramp. The old river channel runs along the south side of Shell. Look for a White Yar-craft tiller and we'll vist.

The fish are pretty scattered right now. You can catch them off the islands, on most of the flats, on the southeast shore, etc. There really isn't a specific spot right now. We caught them in three different types of areas last weekend. Both slow death rigs and spinners with crawlers. I'll be at the event also so just look me up and I'll tell you what I know. I think my kid will be pre-fishing a couple days in advance.

If I could be there I'd follow Tillerman to Shell Village. Back in the day even before I had a flasher that was the hottest spot on the lake for me, I could line up a tree row on the east shore and a couple other landmarks and somehow find a spot that had the best fishing ever, Not just once but that spot repeated itself over and over for many years. I have caught most of my Sakakawea walleyes within a 1 mile radius down there, The rest came from just east of there at the North end of the east slides, Most of the time they were suspended over deeper water. Dang I miss that lake, Wish I was closer.

I've had the best luck pulling bouncers & spinners/slow death rigs in 16-24' near the island closest to the van hook resort ramps. Otherwise i'm sure you could find them on any of the humps or points out there. Look for those inside turns or saddles and you can find fish.

Kdm I'll probably be heading down there the night before to catch the evening bite. If you want to jump in I'll gladly show my good spots.

Oh and if you swing into the bait shop they have an awesome map on the wall (and a smaller version for purchase that has all the island and flats names on them.

talked to my kid this morning. They caught limits three days in a row in just a few hours. Different spot each day. From flats to points, etc.

Here
Watch V's vid about shallow cranking. Use wire/etc leaders.

I believe you have impeccable info: In fact; you may have too much leading to vapor lock. Pick two techs in your comfort zone and determine your locations. You know this shi'ite. I just like to type about fishing.

This thread is an excellent reference and should become a "sticky" IMHO.

I'll be there Friday at the hook doing recon. (sans electrical gremlins that have plagued me for last week) hopefully that gets fixed today. Is anybody staying in Newtown? I have a room booked for Friday night.
maybe a cold beer is in order with a couple of you fellas.
