Probably a bit more to the story than a short tribune article. Also, considering this guy came over to someone’s house to confront them and then ends up killing the guy and shooting at another doesn’t bode well for self defense. He could have also just driven away at any point.

Guessing the guy coming at him is the woman's dude, and he was a bit ticked that she showed up with this fella, and things got hot.

Seems "plausible" he may have had other things going on with some not so nice folks? Unless it is just the norm nowadays to keep an illegal weapon in your waistband? But if he honestly feared for his life I can see it happening if he panicked.
