That was my first try, nope, then tried to push it thru, nope, then pushed shank down towards hook and then the pliers did the trick.

Tie a loop of line about the size of an ice cream pail......loop the line over the hook that's sunk in......push down on the eye of the hook.......quick snap on the fishing line and and that baby'll pop right out!
