Best tactic I used for late season spooky roosters was to find small potholes in corn/soybean fields that were 50 or so yards across that were 100 to 200 yds off the road. Park 400 or so yards down the road, leash up ole Herc, and sneak in on that cover like there was a 300 inch whitetail in there. Once I got to the edge of the cover, I'd let Herc off the line and get ready. Most birds hit the air by the time Herc made his third jump through the cover, but it didn't matter as they were in range when I let Herc go. I sure miss that dog. Quiet is the name of the game. Nothing will send late season survivors packing faster than a slamming car door, a racking gun, or the sound of the human voice. Late season was my favorite part of the whole shebang. Stay Warm Fellas.
