buddy let me try his many many years ago and he showed me how he fillets his fish. He warned me about the edge on the back side of the knife several times. "Give it a try.'' Wasn't more than a minute and I was looking for a bandaid.

He never ever cut through any bones with the front edge. Cut behind the head with the back edge. Carved around the rib cage with the front edge. Any edge lasts a lot longer that way i'd guess

I don't get how people cut themselves with the LL knife? Do you guys normally touch the back side of the tip of a knife? I have 2 of them and cleaned plenty of fish without an issue.

Just curious how much is the leech lake knife? The wife bought me the Minnesota fillet knife a few years back. Since then their price has doubled.

i have a knife that i got from the feller at dakota tackle, it's a Mora from sweden, it has a black\blue handle and a rubberized grip... i love it. stays sharp and cuts through the biggest of bones I have been at the cleaning station several times where I was at least twice as fast as the people with the electrics and I don't leave all that meat.

not going to lie, that leech lake is purdy and i like purdy things

if you want a fillet knife that's not an electric, call DDGF cutlery out of Mandan(I think). Dennis Fitter is his name. I have a couple hunting, and one fillet knife from him. Best knives I've ever had, and he will usually sharpen them the first time at no charge. Razor sharp, and you can get a custom knife with quality steel. Some are more expensive than others, just depends what you want. He usually has a booth at the Bismarck Gun show, so if you've attended that, you've probably seen his work.

Ive done some research into fillet knives and currently have one of the best, its a cold steel carbon V blade and Ive been offered 3x what I paid for it, they quit making them years ago. IMO Leech Lake make good knives, but they are like a porsche, very nice but will get beat by a corvette that cost 1/3 as much to purchase. You pay a lot for the 'fancy' while you can get very functional (some say better) knife for significantly less. If you want a knife to clean fish, look at the dexter russel offerings, they have quite a few, one to make pretty much anyone happy. If you want a knife to clean fish and brag about, get a Leech Lake....

But is that really worth it? Not saying its a bad knife, sounds like a phenomenal knife really. But for $10 i can get a mediocre knife that i have to sharpen between uses. Meh, if i caught a ton of fish each year and was maybe more skilled at filleting in the first place then it might be a good purchase. I'd guess most people don't get out enough to make that worth it. IMHO. :)

what kind of batteries in that? Lithium ion?

Yes.

I had one a few years back that had a standard rechargeable battery, it lasted half a season and the battery would not hold a charge anymore.
Hoping this new battery style is as cats ass as they claim it being

Forschner 6 in boning knife is by far my favorite. I have used Wistoff's, Leech lake's, Rapalas, Gerbers, and they all have their place even the amateur electric knives. I don't mean to brag but I can clean fish faster with this Forschner than anyone I have saw with an electrics.
