^^Alan^^, above you mentioned not being familiar with the Pro XS Merc - my 2019 Impact had a 150 Pro XS. Ran it 5 seasons...never had a single issue...maybe I got lucky! Last year bought a 19ft G3 with a 200 Yamaha VF on it. So far...so good. But like you said, Merc and Yamaha sell so many motors every year...kinda like Ford and Chevy trucks, be many folks that have issues, but in the big picture would guess the percentage with problems is pretty small. If I found the boat I wanted and it had a new Merc on it, would not hesitate to pull the trigger...but that's just me! Above you hinted at maybe a new boat...what are you looking at!

The exact model is something I still haven't decided on. My current 2004 Fisherman has been an absolutely fantastic boat overall, powered by a Yamaha.

Probably the closest thing to it nowadays is the Lund Crossover (the new Fisherman just seems off, to me). I've always been an aluminum boat kind of guy simply because it's hard to put behind my childhood of camping on the shore of Sak and just beaching the boat overnight. But nowadays that just isn't reasonable given the Corps' position on shoreline camping over the past 20 years. So, glass is certainly on the table and would provide a much better ride than I've grown accustomed to over the years.

One thing I am pretty sure of is that I don't want carpet in the boat, not a single piece of it. My fishing nowadays involves a lot of gravel roads and the dust in the carpet is nothing short of awful. I see Lund is now selling some boats that don't have carpet. That's probably one of the more important things, as silly as that sounds.

Whatever I get will complement my Fishing toon, which gets used when I take several people with me, or I have someone elderly I want to take fishing, my stepdad is 87 and has become an avid angler over the past 20 years.

I haven't had to replace the alternator yet on my Merc 150 4S, but I hear it's a pretty common repair. I've also had to have its trim/tilt rebuilt, twice.

Not sure your gonna want a glass boat if doing alot of gravel. Yes you can get trailer nose cones and all but would stick with aluminum just my 2¢.

No sparkles! Always had a custom fitted bra. Only left the Angle every other year.

Trust me, that thought has crossed my mind. That being said, there aren't many walleye boats around here without carpet in the higher performance offerings. One that comes to mind is the Lund Impact GL. I've seen them without carpet on the floor in the bow. At least, I've seen pics of them without carpet in the bow.

I had a Lund fisherman with optional vinyl floor and snap in carpet. Took the carpet out as soon as the boat came home. Loved that vinyl floor. My fishing pontoon has a woven type of “vinyl” flooring (sea grass) that is awesome…would never have carpet in a boat again.

Sea dek or some eva foam type product would be the ticket.
The snap in carpet in mine under is fiberglass ruffed up imo. Hot and can be slippery with snow or a big pike on the floor.

PS i like my carpet but it doesnt see sand or dirt that much.

They've continuously changed their policy over the years, so it's not a bad idea for me to keep checking. But at one time, it was about a $4k increase to go with a Yamaha motor over a Mercury even though they were similarly priced engines. I see now they have a "no motor" option on their build-a-boat page.

Personally, I don't think I have ever run across a newer Lund with something other than a Merc on it, but I am sure there are a few like me with a non-Merc preference.
Huh, you saw a new lund with a yammie, this fall whe you hit that sandbar at Hazeleton.

Since getting new knees and having neuropathy I have balance issues and have not used my boat for five years. When I get it out of storage this spring an get some photos I'll put it up for sale. I'll tell you what it is and I would appreciate some feedback on what I should ask for it.
2003 Lund 1700 Adventure Fisherman
2003 130hp Honda with 40+ hour on it and extra prop.
Roller trailer with tongue jack that has duel tires and crans to move up to 5000 pounds
15hp Mercury 4 cycle pro troller with digitally adjustable troll speeds etc. Has less than 2 hours on it. New in about 2015.
I don't know what you call the passenger seat, but it was for my wife after spinal surgery and was $750 at Scheels. She only got to use it once. Also a Durado I think you call it - never got to use it.
Bought a $950 custom travel tarp when we took it to Helena Montana one summer.
Electric ancho
72 inch older auto pilot 72lb thrust 24v trolling motor.
Many extras like unused sea ancho etc.
We hate to part with it, but it's just getting older every year.

Somehow my feed on FB went into the vexus group. I am not a member of the group either Wow how many get the hulls and more are replaced un fricken believable. I remember seeing the jacob wheeler take one over to the bahamas. I thought they were the real deal even though they had to offload the camera man half way do to the waves. Which didnt look that high. But did not realize all the issues. Sounds like they are doing a toyota and fix everything; they charge enough for em i suppose they can rehull and we work over and over and still make a profit.

Those Fisherman models of that generation have a very wide range in asking prices. I've seen some that look near mint with an asking price of around $19k, where a well-used one is around $9-$13k.

New hulls? Yikes! Are they just cracking or whats the issue with them?

  • Hull Cracks: The main concern, especially in 2018-2021 models (AVX1980, AVX2080), often near the keel or welds, linked to the thinner aluminum used during those years.
  • Improper Rolling: Some hulls had trapped air bubbles due to thin gelcoat layers, as noted in a sailing context but highlighting potential manufacturing inconsistencies.
  • Improper Jackplate Setup: Using non-recommended jackplate sizes or setups could stress the transom and lead to leaks, reports
