No, we cannot blame the entire Somali community in our area for the actions of one. But, this event was simply a "last straw" for many residents of our community.
This event gives us an opportunity to reflect, and take stock of what we have. Quite a lot has changed in the last 10 years in Central MN.
-St. Cloud school district is the least desirable in all of central MN. People may give you the PC version of why they are leaving it, but the blunt truth is simply the fact that the Somali have taken it over. Even teachers have told me "the diversity is a bit much".
- uninsured Somali drivers are destroying property in record numbers, and making the roads around St. Cloud more dangerous than ever.
- Landlords renting property to Somali are faced with destroyed units, unsanitary conditions, and entire buildings that are only inhabitable by Somali, as they are the only ones left who will reside there.
All of this is occurring using our tax dollars. Barely over half of the Somali population is employed, the rest rely on government handouts for food, rent and healthcare.
Bottom line, they are not assimilating. They are flocking to our community because the leadership has created a paradise for them.
I have met several Somali who have adapted to our culture, and I can honestly say that they are a benefit to our community. Hard working, polite, intelligent and friendly. Unfortunately this is a very, very, very small percentage of the Somali community.
So, we cannot humanely deport those currently residing- BUT- we can most definitely stop the influx of new refugees. We can stop it, and allow the ones currently here to adapt, let the unemployment rate drop, and cut off government aid immediately. ANY criminal activity should result in immediate deportation.
There is no reason a refugee who has no respect for this country should receive better quality of life than our own, simply because they came from a troubled country.
Bottom line, simply put, is nobody asked the citizens of St. Cloud if they would like to have thousands of refugees residing in their town.
It's time to exercise democracy, and put refugee resettlement on the November ballot. Shut Dayton up, let the citizens of MN decide if we should accept more refugees. It is OUR tax dollars, after all, not his.
And if governor Dayton has a problem with us deciding for ourselves, he can find a new place to live.
BTW,this last sentence was directed@ gov goofy Dayton,he made a statement on our local news that if the residents of Mn has issues with all the refugee's streaming into our state, said residents should find a new place to live...what a prick!
