It's bad enough trying to book a weekend flight to denver to ski over new years but check this out...

[h=1]‘Most Destructive’ Fire In Colorado History Engulfs Hundreds Of Homes, Forces 30,000+ To Evacuate: Reports[/h]
Holy sheep shit! I remember back in the 50's denver burned as houses were build on "zero lot lines just feet apart from each other,100's of homes burned because of this...building codes changed but didn't account for 100mph winds when a fire started,600 homes up in smoke.

It's shocking and heart breaking!! My thoughts and prayers go out to those folks and it's winter time to boot. Awful.

I was in Colorado Springs a few weeks ago during the 100 mph winds event. Even living in ND where 50+ mph wind gusts are common for us, I will say sustained winds of that velocity are truly impressive. I can only imagine how fast a fire would grow and jump from house to house.

Watched it last nite on a Denver channel , supposedly started by downed power lines. Along with 100mph plus wind gusts. Seeing videos this morning can't believe the devestation, but also weird one home burned the one beside it ok , damn near like a tornado. Over 600 homes lost the good thing so far no lives

Mountain wave winds are freaky, freaky deals. Terribly sad situation and one that most people could never imagine happening in a "city" environment. There is really no understanding of why one house burned, then the next didn't. Mother nature is a nasty thing to deal with. I'm sure folks will be lining up to sue the power companies just as they have in California, but what is a realistic expectation for our power companies to be held to? An event like this is basically an act of God, even with the most meticulously maintained grid something can always break. So sad for all those involved!

The foothills are full of homes. Surrounded by trees. Very bad news.

Between Boulder and Broomfield on Hwy 36. It's foothills country, but there are no trees in that area. It's prairie rolling hills country not unlike a lot of the Front Range stuff just west of I25 from Ft. Collins to Denver. Very urbanized areas that burned too, it's almost unthinkable that a prairie fire could do what it did. Could happen on the edge of Pierre or Bismarck just the same way, very similar country.

I wonder if they would not have restricted logging how much this would have helped.
Terrible deal.

Not really any trees in that area. Just lots of brushy shit between homes.
