Maybe NDA needs a new section.

Am I the only one here that'll take a skunk day and learn from it? Put some fuel in the rigs and get on the water! Also, From here til middle May, Missouri River, Jig and a minnow, find some slack/warmer water. No fish, move to next spot. Avoid floating debris and sandbars.
Well said. I put in many days in the wind, rain, or heat have many failed days, but in the end I catch a good amount of fish because I go out and try. If someone is putting in the effort and struggling, I'll give them pointers or send them to a hunny hole that produces for me. If someone is asking me where to fish, what depth, or what to use without putting any effort in it first, They can figure it out just like I did.

How about a check box fashion. What body of water? Ice, Boat or Shore? Type of lure? Bait? Any additional info? (Paragraph style). That way nobody has to be getting butt hurt about telling people exactly where you're catching them. Very general info. Each entry can be categorized based on the body of water, that way when someone wants a report, they click on the body of water and see peoples entries with checked info without getting anything too specific unless the person giving the info wants to add it in the additional info at the end.

That's what most people give anyway.....But a lot of people won't even post that. Although OAHE is a huge lake, knowing which section of lake to fish can be critical at times. Not very often people will tell which point or piece of structure they're fishing. Especially around tournament times. I usually let people know when the bite picks up in May and give a few reports throughout the summer. I know when tournaments let loose in Mobridge, people keep track of how many go north vs south

I have only fished from a boat for two years now. Several times I have asked for advice and where to go and depending on the time of year how to fish. I have gotten a lot of good information although pretty general (like find slack water on the Missouri this took a lot of trial and error just to recognize slack water) and one "friend" so far. It is kind of interesting how when looking for information to be a better fisherman that things will get siderailed pretty quick. And pretty soon the thread dies. I remember reading not to long ago about a guys looking for tips on the tailrace and all it turned into was look out for those truck sized bolders or I had a buddy lose a lower unit up there. Not a lot of info about what to even use for a rig set up. I don't think that all these guys are looking for someones honey hole just using a resource to learn or see if it's worth making the trip to a specific location for the day.;:;rant

generally speaking there are just a few honey holes below the chutes

you think everybody here on NDA had internet help and volunteers when they learned how to fish? ha ha ha

if, like me, their dad didn't show them, they just stuck their chin out, got their butts out there (in shit boats BTW) and got skunked over and over until they figured it out

I swear that seems to be an issue these days - everybody wants it easy

So your saying if you had this technology back then you wouldn't utilize it. I agree we all have to put the work into it but we will always try to find ways to make it easier otherwise we would have the electronic equipment we have today. I started coming here to see if I could learn from some of these guys that have years of experience. I'm not looking for a handout I'm here to learn from you guys if you don't want to share what you've learned over the years that's fine but don't think that because I'm using the internet as a tool to become a better fisherman make me someone not willing to work for it.

BTW my dad never took me fishing out on a boat either. So this is all new to me. I am learning everytime I go out and hope that some day I can bring home a limit everytime I'm out or consistently hook into mature fish.

Fortunately, my dad showed me the ropes but I was too busy being a kid to really pay attention. I learn something new every time I go to the tailrace. The rest of the river is always a treasure trove of "doh!" moments. I still feel like a rookie most days. Then it clicks. Last year never clicked, so I know that I need to learn how to fish high water seasons.

As far as the fishing reports go, if you're willing to give up exact information, awesome. I still won't believe you because I think all fishermen/women are pathological liars. Gas isn't cheap, pickups and boats are expensive and you never seem to have enough tackle/equipment. Finding good fishing is priceless.

Having sold the boat i dont really pay attention to reports any more but when the ice goes out on oahe bottom bouncers and slow death or pulling flicker shads will fill the live well.

IF I requested info about a lake, weather, conditions, access, etc, I'd make sure I posted a report back. IMO, its greedy to request something and then not follow through with reporting your findings so other may benefit. No request= no obligation

So what your saying is use an IDO format......" In Depth Outdoors" website

All fishing reports fall into one of these categories:
1. Legit report of someone trying to be helpful.
2. Total lies from a wise ass.
3. Total brag. Bragger wants everyone to know how great they are but doesn't share any helpful information.

The fishing reports, to me, are all about us being a community. I could care less about knowing a spot on the spot. It will likely be different the next day anyway. I get a kick out of knowing what someone was doing for a tactic and how it panned out for them. I think somewhere along the lines everyone became quite fickle about sharing, and that is just sad in my opinion. Our sport will require a strong community going forward more than ever. Plus! The fellowship is half of the appeal for me.

Back to KDM's original post. I say leave it. People asking for questions seems to happen more during hardwater and about ice conditions. Some times someone asking about a lake will draw out info that would have never been posted otherwise.

I've put up a fair amount of reports in the summer. It seems my ice fishing excursions become rarer and rarer. It is nice to hear what people are seeing for water temps/clarity/etc.

I would say leave it as is. Ice conditions belong in reports in my opinion. There aren't enough reports anyway.

I read all the "reports" just for something to do really

Only thing I would change if possible, would be to bump the latest comment in the fishing reports to the top of the list, as like in the general forum.

Damn. Rant is right!

Everybody needs some help or guidance once in awhile. And even if somebody gets some really good help/guidance, they still have to go out and actually do it. Reading about how to catch fish and being good at it are two different things.
