Anyone have a good way to kill off the damn aphids and asian beetles? They are fricking thick and I don't even have bean fields around me this year.
Around and in the house ? if so tempo around the foundation works wonders. We hardly ever get them up here but certain years we get invaded with boxelder bugs. Are there different varieties of aphids ? I had a durum field that was just crawling with aphids one year and I was out in it quite a bit and I didn't get any bites. In fact I didn't know they bit until I saw LB post about them biting.

Yeah I used tempo around the house but some still find their way in. I'd like to find something to spray the yard to eliminate most of them though. Usually only get a bunch of asian beetles if we have bean fields around the place but it's all corn this year and it's the worst I've seen it. Maybe it's a new corn aphid variety? Not sure

Keep going, this is interesting.
Here you go since you were interested. I took this picture tonight on one of my pollinator plants.

Oops I thought it was you who had asked about aphids and Asian beetles. This is a ladybug larva, feasting on an aphid, which is feasting on my goldenrod.

It was me, I know very little about bugs. This time of the year with garden produce and fruit we get fruit flies in the house. Easy to get rid of with vinigar and a jar with cellophane over it and poke a few holes in the top.

I'm building up my garden soil with straw but this year my renter grew canola and one combine was dropping the straw . It would make for some good material to work into the soil but I have a question. Is there a chance the straw would introduce canola beetles into the soil ?

I'd probably move it off the field and not spread it for a month until we dig the root crops .

To me canola straw could have a lot of seeds left in it.

Volunteer canola in a garden would be a pain in the ass to get rid of.

I grabbed a hand full and it looked all threshed out. I do 1/2 every year and summer follow that half for a year. surprised how well that works , Small weeds are easy to kill with tillage on a hot day.

Who as seen the migration of the Monarch Butterfly. It has years since I have seen it. I have only seen it twice. But it was unbelievable. I seen 1000's of them. I was in a treestand the first time when they were going by me I could here there wings flapping there were so many. Both times was way before cell phones.
At my mn home right now, dozens on my milkweed stands, had locals all summer, just a few buzzing around pestering my pup but now the blitz, also noticed large numbers of "nighhawks" migrating, riding thermals high and fast, large wads of migrating bonkers as well riding the nw wind this morning. Great time of year.

Last summer we had both Asian and Japanese beetles mowing our trees and garden, neighbor hung beetle bait bags, every night the bags were full, this summer not one beetle,so these bait bags work, bait mixed with water. I've read to treat loose garden soil in fall if having issues with both beetles to destroy eggs.
