Back in the 50's and 60's running dogs got shot in Pembina County, ND. They were hard on the deer and wiped out the pheasants.

I can see it busting out of the brush and a guy smoking the thing in haste. That said, walking up to it would be embarrassing and it would be mums the word as it looks like an Iditarod participant. Haha!
