Looks like Montana is cutting its nonresident deer tags starting next year. I've hunted in region 7 many times for deer, but haven't the past 5 years or so. That area already had a lot of NR hunters and then add in EHD, you could see the herds get smaller and smaller year after year. With the reduction in revenue, one has to wonder if they will up tag prices again. Still a fun hunt though and hopefully can get back out there again.

After the deer numbers we saw this year ND should do the same!! In fact, they should cut all the tags IMO. At least for a while.
I agree, ten years ago I would take youth hunters out on a section of land. About 200 acres farm land. And 200 acres hay ground and rest CRP. The house sets just about in the center of the section. Ten yrs ago the young hunters wouldn't set for no more than 30 mins and shoot there deer. And it was like that for years. The last two years there has not been a deer shot. We set in a old abandoned house in the 2nd story and can glass lots of land. Between that land we hunt and a half section to the north. Everything is farmed ditch to ditch. No trees anymore and very few sloughs.

I realize that cutting ND deer tags hurts the G & F revenue, but that dept is there to keep & care for our resources. Yes, it's a tough balancing game, but that's their duties.
Drop the # of tags, mainly the doe tags, and go from there.
I saw very few deer this season, including talking with lots of other hunters that said the same thing. There was also very few hunters in the field. Are we losing a very important tradition? Why:
People are not enjoying the hassle of getting drawn, the expense of the prep & actual hunting, and then trying to find huntable land/habitat. (dump electronic posting asap!)

Roll the dice. Shut the season down completely Gratis, Bow, & Gun, except for youth tags. See if the herd can be increased slightly. And yes before everyone jumps my shit, I am well aware of if a harsh/shitty winter and it could all be for nothing.

AND MAKE SURE WE RIP OUT SOME MORE TREE ROWS AND PLOW UP SOME MORE LAND SO THERE IS NO HABITAT WHAT SO EVER !
