The snows are pouring in and the mallards are starting to build so you can keep your cold weather. Hell that things got wheels and Canada's got ice... have wheels will travel there you go!

How many here have all the time in the world during the summer months, but are swamped with work during the winter months? Not including snow removal guys. Bring on winter.............then I finally get to enjoy life

My summer poem:

May the wind howl
Forever docking your 60k glass boat

the end

I am waiting for some ice fishing action for sure but still have some loose ends to tie up.
Plus got other critters to go after to fill the time in daylight and can prep ice gear after the girls go to bed

I'm ready! After deer season anyway...Only problem is I screwed up my timing and have kid #2 coming the first week of January. Do you think I can use paternity leave to go ice fishing?

I need to finish up my garage so I can get the ranger in and start putting the new goodies on for this season...still boat fishing when I can, but I'm equally excited for ice

No we won't.... I'll be out there with the boat still making waves
Yeah we will! Just because you can use your boat one place doesn't mean s*** won't be freezing somewhere else. when you're looking at daytime highs possibly not breaking 30 you're going to be making ice in allot of places.

I don’t get why people would rather ice fish then open water fish.

Kinda think Dean is right...look at the extended forecast...if we don't have fishable ice by Thanksgiving I'll be surprised.

I like to do both and I try to keep things as simple as I can. For me, there is a certain comfort knowing you can just drive right to your spot (ice house), cut a few holes, not have to worry about wind or a boat or boat control, be warm and dry, drop a few lines, sit back in a comfy chair, crack a beer, and listen to the radio while waiting for a fish to bite. By the same token, I can grab my backpack of lures, walk the Sheyenne River to any one of several spots, cast in solitude, peace, and quiet, watch the critters move around, and do it while being protected from the wind as well. Both are exceptionally enjoyable to me in their own right.

This is what's in store for the end of November. I'm thinking that widespread fishable ice is going to be tough to come by until sometime in December.

^ changes every few days tho right Allen? Two days ago we were in the "below average" zone on the map...so guess it's a crap shoot. But I do have to decide when to take the boat to the storage garage...based on the next 14 days...guessing I'll be heading there early next week!

All depends on what you consider fishable. Now there's guys out here that'll drive trucks and stuff I won't walk on but when I see forecast like this for Minot I'll guarantee you they're going to be people on the ice probably by next weekend because they're crazy! Now obviously things like Des Lacs are going to take longer to freeze but there's going to be ice fishing going on soon enough on some of the smaller stuff at least.
