I like my Daiwa regals as well. Also use the supreme and supreme xt. Do have a carbon x II

I know i am switching gears on the topic - but does anyone own a spirex ------ i use a baitcaster 99.9% of the time. But i need that spinning reel and i cannot cast consistently with my spinning reels.

The pflueger purist reels served me well for many years. Check out the okuma ceymar reels. Very smooth, priced right and have become my favorites. Scheels stocks them.

The ceymar bait feeders are sweet for ice fishing and some open water applications. The drag and bearings are just as smooth at 0F as they are at 80F.

Series like give me a good example when you have used it?
he has his drag set high and instead of relying on it he back-reels every time a fish makes a run that feels like it needs slack to prevent line breaking or the hook straightening out. It takes skill and boggles my mind watching people do it.

he never doesn’t use it 😳

Ok my experience is how i use the drag when dealing with a bigger fish, i use my right hand to dial the drag depending on the timing of the retrievalof the fish . Earlier in the fight i dial down the drag so the fish can feel some resistance while taking the line out and when the fish quits pulling i dial it back up just enough so that when im pulling back the rod the drag isnt still spinning line out. This process was ideal when i used mono because spider wire or power pro were still a new product which if anyone remembers they sucked. I learned this technique i describe while catching cat fish on light gear on the red, I guess i never seen anyone use the anti reverse option, probably be better since using the drag would twist the line up something fierce making the reel useless because it would would twist up on to itself when i used it again, but when i switched to braided line no more twist. I would use this same technique ice fishing as well, which is the reason i went with quantum reels because they used ceramic discs in their drags which were much better then the carbon ones in others, nearly indestructible.
