Anyone been following the story?? Seems like something out of a movie. Can't believe a dude just walked up into a wedding reception -- with cops on guard -- and whacked his ex GF and her new BF. Unreal.

Sounds like the girl will survive.

I spend a few weekends every year in New Rockford during hunting season. Great little town. Wish the watering hole on the south side would stay open for more than six months. They always have some good eats.

But man...that sort of deal has got to shake a small town up.

Anyone know the folks involved? I honestly can't fathom living through something like that.

Was the guy her bf?(Not that it changes anything.) The first accounts I heard that were from relatives sounded like he didn't even know her they just happened to be at the same table. They made it sounded like it was just random. Messed up deal, thoughts to his friends and family.

Pretty sad deal! He's a cousin of mine. Didn't know him very well but he was very well liked and all around a really good guy.

Are there usually cops at a wedding reception?

I guess I have never noticed, seems that maybe they were expecting trouble of some sort?

Sorry for the victims in this either way.

pretty much mandated nowadays that the wedding party pays for law enforcement to be at weddings

I am not sure about this. I was just at a wedding and reception in downtown St. Paul last weekend for my niece and no law enforcement was to be seen. I wasn't even imbibing so my eyesight was fine. Who knows though..maybe each city, county have different laws.

"downtown" probably means big time hotel - which means they have security (who blend in)

small town lounges/bars/hotels don't normally have security on staff so they pay local law enforcement (who stick out like sore thumbs due to uniforms)

also, just because I live in Little MSP doesn't mean I know the laws of MN!

niece just got married in Jamestown at the Gladstone last month - they had to hire two local deputies or whatever, who spent their time chastising anyone who went outside with a drink in their hand

I work with a guy originally from New Rockford. He had good friends and relatives at the reception. He said the gal was sitting at a table talking to a guy and her boyfriend (the shooter) walked in and shot the dude. Best they can figure is because he was talking to his girlfriend.

Right you are guy! I didn't see any though..we were downstairs of the event center so they were probably upstairs at the entrance. Don't mean to hijack the thread..but speaking of weddings..wow..they can be costly these days! My nosy self just researched what my niece and groom must of had to pay for their little get together at the lower downtown event center in St. Paul.. geez.. $5500 just for the rental of the place for the day..this did not include other costs..flowers..photographers.. sit down meal for like 250 of us..open bar..wine and beer, honey moon to Jamaica. Holy smokers! my niece is a few years removed from college. Hope her new husband is making big bucks as our measly $50 check for their wedding gift won't go far!!

Keep a stash of cash in the sock drawer.

mrs johnr is very kind and generous with "our" money, but a guy needs a bit of stash for when the need arises.
I once came home with a new gun, it was hard to explain the funds that paid for it, so learn from my absentmindedness, and just us the stash on soft goods...haha

I worked out a deal with the wife before we got married. As long as we could afford it I would get one new gun per year. Worked great so far have gotten 7 in our 5 years married. Sad deal what happened can't trust anyone now days it seams.

^^^^ My sister lives in Carrington and the same thing. Sad deal! Sounds like the shooter was a decent guy and no one would have ever thought he would do something like this. What makes people flip out?
