Maybe I'm losing my mind but, this came to me while throwing a few arrows tonight. When you're trying to lose weight, quit smoking, etc. whatever, you often have a support group to hold you accountable. With archery season just over a month away, I hope you've been practicing. We can hold each other accountable to do so. Feel free to post how many arrows you've thrown today. Or not. Maybe I'm just getting soft in my old age.

Today I shot 10. Weren't my best groups.

I've already been to the range twice this week, around 100 arrows each time. Been going at least once a week for a month. Starting to ramp it up. Also preparing for the 3d shoots in Bismarck next month.

I've been shooting between 300-500 per week since picking up my new bow in April. Love just getting out and flinging arrows.

Shot about 15 yesterday between choirs. none the day before, but about 50-100 on Tuesday. Try to get out there for 5-10 shots a day. Mainly long shots to get my steadiness down.

Don't have the time to bowhunt for deer anymore, but I have shot 20 striped gophers with the bow this year. I'd say it's good practice

I have stuck 2 deer in my life is all, I haven't bow hunted in many years. My son has a target he shoots in the back yard quite a bit.
Does a guy need to restring his bow after it has sat for I am guessing 7 to 8 years?

I think your idea of practice before hunting is a great idea I wish more people did that. I'm a chief hunter ed instructor and try to point out the need for practicing before you hunt with either bow or rifle/pistol/shotgun.

While I'm not using a bow to hunt with this year I do have a rifle elk tag and just drew an any antlered deer tag. So I'm shooting 30-50 rounds a week, sitting, prone and using a shooting stick.

I need to find a place 18 ft off the ground to practice from. Tree stand shooting and ground blind shooting are QUITE different for me.

Remember to flex your arrows before every shot.

Wondering the same deal: I ASSumed it was like stretching a rubber band and a molecular deal.

To check for stress and avoid spectacular failures you see on interweb where carbon arrows explode into wrists.

What guy said. Just bend carbon arrows back and forth a few times. If you hear any cracks, discard the arrow. I'm not going to post a pic, you can google it if you want, but imagine a arrow kind of exploding like a grenade through your bow hand. It's unpleasant.

Thank you for not posting pictures as the few times I've seen something of that nature I've almost quit bow hunting all together

I got a racist Indian Spirit compound with 25lb pull for Christmas in '79 or '80. I literally did the "Ralphie" at daybreak the next morning; Shaun Cassidy pajamas, rubber boots. gloves and coat: Target--Barbie van box. The set came complete with a set of 3 wooden arrows and I quickly lost two under the snow; never to be seen again. I got pissed. I was 15yds away from a Barbie box the size of a freakn' refrigerator and couldn't hit...the darn thing.

Arrow 3 also struck the dirt but I could see the beautiful red, white and blue fletching on this one. Elated I could retrieve it then pissed to the point of tears it had broken in half: Next I proceeded to nock this half arrow, walked up to point blank of the box, said "I'll hit you now son of a bitch"; drew and released: Nothing.

As I began a perplexed investigation I realized my hand was pinned to the grip. I was able to painfully free my index and middle finger and the rest is a hospital story. Mom was certainly pleased with being awakened with this event. Thus the end of my bowhunting career. Damn, that hurt.
