Should definitely wait till the report is out at least a little although I will admit I'm not going to be shocked at all if I see the term such as distracted driving showing up in it. Either way it's a tragedy for two families!

So your 100% sure there wasn't a medical issue or something of the sort that caused this young woman to crash?

Drove by this accident while the cops were still taking pics, and the flattened bicycle was still on the sidewalk. The car was still in place too. It's a sad deal.

Roads were in fine condition. Not dark, not slippery. The car must have entered a driveway, then gone down the sidewalk, then took out a couple of small landscaping trees. The area between the sidewalk and the parking lot is landscaped with several 3 to 4 foot "hills" and the car must have bounced along over a few of them too.

Went by a couple hours later, and there were flowers on the boulevard.

I don't know what happened, but I almost wonder if the driver didn't panic and hit the gas rather than the brake. Not making excuses at all - two families torn up now.

If it was a phone, she is one of the MANY who are distracted. If it was simply driver error and she hit the gas instead of the brake, elderly people do that every now and again too.

Does the article mention she was taking to the hospital too ??
Nope but since she is a minor it might not disclose that, or maybe the article just doesn't mention it. There is pretty limited info since the police are still conducting an investigation and we should probably just let them do their job.

I just believe in due process, especially with a minor involved. You said there are no excuses and she shouldn't get a slap on the wrist. I was just basically pointing out that there are in fact many scenarios that are possible including medical or even a young driver panicking like Jaykay points out.

My favorite has to be making a right hand turn while another driver in the opposing left turn lane decides they want to go at the same time and force my vehicle into the curb. Take a look at the other driver glaring at me like how dare you get in my way BTW this is at a signalized intersection and my light is green.

people in Mandan on the sunset drive and old red trail area always make the mistake when they are turning right thinking they have the right away, when in reality they have to yield to traffic turning left, not all intersections are the same just because you are going right and have a green light doesn't mean you get to go, especially since that one says yield on green. I have been almost taken out a couple times there. but, not much different then people power merging onto interstate when they need to yield to traffic flow this construction going on now has made for some fun commutes home. But I would rather drive in ND then any of the overpopulated states I have been too where it is 6 lanes bumper to bumper and those f'n toll roads are the worst.

Red lights and right of way rules dont exist Bismarck - the list goes on and on. The texting and driving in this city is astronomical as well and never see the cops enforcing it? Perhaps its hard for cops to enforce when they too are talking on the phone and typing on the laptop while driving.

Most of these bad drivers wouldn't last 5 min. in a metropolitan area.

Sweeny, the intersection I was referring to is not yield on green. Since you mentioned the intersections in Mandan I will have to look into that. I would think if the crossing traffic has the right of way it should not be yield on green, rather flashing yellow to warn the driver corssing traffic has right of way. Yield on green for through traffic is a recipie for disaster. I would not want to be the engineer involved in that lawsuit.

add some more round a bouts===== fail

At a cost of 10 million dollars, Minot is adding its first one at 13th street and 31st Ave. SE. People complaining they have to wait to long at a stop sign on 31st Ave. to get onto 13st. ;:;rofl I believe it was last summer a guy on a motorcycle going north on 13st at 70-90 mph died when he hit a car that pulled out from the stop sign. Some people just don't get it.
