You can save some money on windows by watching for someone replacing windows in their house. you can use the window portion only with hinges. Usually the glass is fine on windows being removed and the frames wear. Most people will give them away so they idon'thave to dispose of them.

I'm gonna get flack for the price, but consider tinning it. Protects wood against the elements and then you really have a long term solution. Especially on the roof. I used the siding to hang over for a gable end to protect sideways moisture that we tend to get here from time to time. Other than that, P2000 insulation and 18" slider windows does the job for me. Oh and a cheap storm door from menards did the trick for me. Plus gets you a bonus window that you can black out with a towel if you wish.
If it rained; ZERO danger of anything being shot by me.
