Haven't had a youngster kill anything at my place for awhile and I'd like to change that. However, I'm old, fat, getting lazier every day, and I hate the cold more and more every year. So..... I've decided I'm going to build an Old Fat Guy Deer Stand that will be big enough that I can go along with any young hunters and watch the fun as it happens instead of hear about it later. I'm thinking 8X12 with the heater in the middle of one of the 12 ft walls so nobody gets cooked out having to sit by the heater. I want two large windows on each half of the 12 ft walls for a total of 4 and one on each 8 ft end so I can watch the action. There will be a reclining captains chair for me included and Yes, I know I'm being selfish, but ask me if I care. Now.... Here's where you herd a turds come in. Type of window, size, vertical or horizontal opening? Please tell me why one is better in your opinions. Type of heater, size, etc. Also, please tell me why. Insulated walls/roof or no? Door type? Any other suggestions and thoughts are welcomed. Within reason. I don't want to spend the next six months of grocery money to build it either so frugalness gets bonus points and cheapness with functionality gets a gold star. Thanks Guys! Let'er Buck!!!

Insulation wise spray foam it will seal it and acts as a sound deadening and helps add some structural strength. If this is a long term thing anchor it with drilled concrete pillars if elevated. Go to the lumber yard see what they have for special order windows people did not take can get some deals if they have been sitting around for a while. Heater i would think one of the ventless propane ones with some 12 volt fans for a little air circulation

I am not much of a builder but I will say make sure you can see out the windows while sitting down. We purchased a used Muddy blind and if your are sitting in a normal camping chair you have to bend down to look out the side windows. I would also go with a window the goes up and down more room to move the barrel back and forth. Hope everything works out for you.

Yep! Long Term!!! I should have specified. I plan on putting 6x6 green treated posts in the ground with concrete and have the floor be a couple feet up off the ground to prevent rodents and other vermin from making it their condo and let the wind blow under it for ventilation and moisture reduction. Good call on the pick up windows. Didn't think of that one or the battery fans. Thanks.

I would put on a rhino lining or some kind of roll on stuff like that on the outside part of the floor to help keep moisture and rot from not happening

As far as windows; sliders or flip is dealers choice, I always liked sliders since you can leave them cracked. But always double pane.
