Anyone tried it in the Dakotas yet ? Does it have Lake Contours or basically just informational of types and size fish for certain areas ? Are a lot of the smaller lakes that have been producing the last few years included ?
Thoughts ???

Yes, it has contours. They get all the their info from G&F but it's more user friendly. I would encourage anyone to download it at least play around with it since you get free trials.

Buddy of mine has it and I can see where it's going to be useful for ice fishing, but with Navionics or Lakemaster on the graph, it's nothing but just another reason to have your damn phone in your hand all the time.

There are two threads on this subject.

If you have a ND Game and Fish website account to buy licenses or get your HIP number etc., there should be a message in your inbox to get ONX Fish free for three months, but when I opened the link and registered, it gave me an expiration date of 12-31-25. Messed around with it a little, and just from first appearances, the ND Game and Fish Fishing Atlas and ONX Fish are not the same maps. https://geocortex.gf.nd.gov/Html5Viewer/?viewer=Fish has way better maps. Here is just one example.

Seeing that little guy and being able to hit Follow Me and drive right on top of it has helped me catch fish. Can't see that detail on ONX Fish.
Another example of bad information is ONX Fish saying a lake about an hour north is a trophy bluegill lake because a 10 inch bluegill was caught in a test net, but when you look at game and fish information, that was seven years ago, and a bluegill hasn't been netted or shocked in that lake since.

Good information. Thank you! I thought I read they pull their information from G&F and the maps would be identical. I guess that information was wrong.

Yes I've had the offer a couple times because of my Onx Hunt. I have no use for it right now but wondering about ice fishing. I have still just been wader fishing but getting tough with the weeds.

Don’t waste the money, the contours are 10 foot on most lakes. Some bigger lakes have 1 foot contours but they don’t match up with my Garmin graph at all.

I am pretty sure they do pull the information from NDGF. I am not aware of any privately funded bathymetric surveys done on ND lakes for commercial purposes such as OnX. The rub here is "when did they pull the NDGF data, and has NDGF updated it since it was pulled by that company". I guess there's also a chance they used satellite derived bathymetry, or some software to interpolate the original bathymetric survey to provide more incremental contour lines, but the NDGF stuff is free (or darn close to free).

A good case in point, I purchased a Navionics chip (two actually) back around 2017 as I upgraded the depthfinders on my Toon and Lund. Navionics did not have anything for contours of Horsehead back then. But I see on the newer chips they do since one of my fishing partners has it on his Lowrance HDS with Navionics.

Guess I should see if I can get a free update.

I don't use it for maps. I use it for research on potential new lakes. And I don't use the "trophy" feature, not sure how that's determined. It takes researching new lakes and makes it easy.

Haven’t used it but obviously they’re getting their survey data from gnf which is free to look at so I don’t see much need to pay for this. Just imo

Yeah $35 a year for some contour map that isn’t even correct, and fish data that’s free online isn’t the best deal, I’ll be their 1# costumer if they make Navionics level maps for the $35 a month.
