What the heck, that's pretty cool actually, I didn't realize we had lake sturgeon in ND. Crazy that those giant lake sturgeon were native in the Pembina and Red but then the Missouri has pallid and shovelnose.

Looks like they started putting them back in the Red in the 90's, has anybody ever heard of one being caught?

And this is why projects like the Garrison diversion projects are a BAD IDEA.

How could you possibly think linking two different water systems that flow to different oceans is a good idea?

They've become pretty common in the Ottertail watershed. See them jumping all the time on OT lake and have caught a few in the last 10 years.

The water from the missouri river is going to be treated before it ends up in the red river. Regardless environmentalist have proposed tearing down and restoring areas that were effected by a hydro electric dam especially along the western sea board. Instead of updating the old dams they are being removed and allowing the river to flow freely again.

I only caught one, but there were a number of lake sturgeon caught in the Grand Forks reach of the Red in the late 90s.

This is being done to specifically help salmon populations.
