About 30 years ago I got bit by a BIG diamondback while duck hunting. Normally I would have been watching for them but it was 50* or so and I was wading in waist high grass.

The Doc said only 1 out of 5 bites was a "real' bite and that was the one I got. I got 26 vials of anti-venom and was sicker than a dog in the hospital for 6 days. I still watch out for them but their not a big deal to me.

On the bug thing, I hit a bumble bee once doing about 70 or so on my KZ 900. It hit me just over my goggles and just under the edge of my helmet, damn near knocked me out. I had 2 BIG black eyes for a week or so.

Growing up in rattle snake country, they don't bother me. U just have to be aware of where ur at! One time I remember my dad getting out of the pickup to open a gate n he froze. Told me to get out n grab the fencing Pinchers off the back n give it to him. Turns out when he stepped out of the pickup, he stepped on a rattler hour 2 inches behind the head. He took the Pinchers n smashed its head against his boot! Was his lucky day I think! Had 11 rattles on it!

Nearly 20 years ago. a good friend of mine took a bumble bee to the forehead at about 90 mph on a not-so-hot bike. Lesson learned.

This got me thinking, how does a bee compare to a bullet?

Weight of bee: 9 grains (about .6 grams - a big sucker)
Speed of bike: 110 FPS (75mph)
KE: .245

Weight of 9mm bullet: 115gr
Speed of bullet: 1,000 FPS
KE: 255

So a bee to the head is less than 1/1,000 the energy of a bullet to the head and it'll still leave a lasting impression. Science, kids!

Too difficult to assume the bee's direction or velocity so I just assume the bee is aloft and stationary.

An African bumblebee or English bumblebee?

A bee <.6 grams as that is generally the max size based on what the interwebs tell me.

Was the bee queer, or uncertain at this stage of the bee's existence? Makes a huge difference, and might provide some government funding for your science experiment.

My wife has at last become accustomed to me jumping out of the truck and going after rattlesnakes. I got a nice one in Arizona that spanned my tire tracks
To bad I got a little to enthusiastic and tore up his skin with a rock. Biggest rattler to date and I messed it up. He sure was not afraid of me I run in front of him to cut him off and he came right at me. Guess he thought he was boss of the area.

We used to do this down in Tucson as well. Only problem is they have learned that rattling gets them in trouble. A lot of them along the Santa Cruz river no longer rattle. Lots of dogs and people getting bit now because of this.

The roundups are mostly to blame for the lack of rattling. The hyper excited ones that rattle get collected and killed at the roundup, the calmer quiet ones live and breed passing their calm quiet genes on to the next generations.

Not a fan of snakes either, most other things don't bother me. Worked for a bee keeper for about 5-6 years and that was really interesting until the day I got stung in the jugular and had to go to the hospital. Not really sure but now I seem to be allergic to bee stings, should probably get fully tested some time I guess.
Was always funny with new guys during extraction season just pick up a bee and throw them at the new guy or a big scoop and set it next to their work station:D Of course they were always the drones that don't have stingers, I don't know why new guys would get mad at me:;:huh

Here is a buzz worm I shot underneath my mother-in-laws deck. It was a tricky shot with dog barking my wife and mother-in-law spectating over my shoulder and above all I wanted to head shoot it and run the bullet into the snakes body so it wouldn't richocet. LOL it worked!

You guys are the biggest buncha candy asses when it comes to snakes. No, they dont supply antivenin, believe it or not, hospitals and pharmaceutical companies like to buy their antivenin stock from scientific based lab sources....not Cletus & Billy Bob the snake wranglers that bring ya tha poison in an empty PBR can.

The people that did die of snake bites must be the snake handling preachers in Appalachia.

Ever consider catching and keeping it? Not as a pet but, you know, maybe sometime you just need a rattlesnake for something.

some drunk hillbilly put one in an oversized pickle jar up at McKenzie bay one summer, he was wondering around the campsite thinking it was the neatest thing every, until he dropped it and the jar shattered. He squeaked like a little kitten, and went running back to his campfire.

Where were you when you shot this one? It has a nice green tint and reminds me of the mojave rattlesnakes we have in AZ.
