It's been something I've always looked out for on the roads whether it be the black-top or the ole dusty roads as i have a little bit of OCD when it comes to paying all too much attention to my surroundings and/or detail to odd things only we can understand..Whatever you wanna call it, i'm sure much of this site suffers of the same when it comes to looking for certain these things through the window pane while behind the wheel.

After enough self-shaming stops/turn arounds because curiosity kills, I was pretty damn certain i was turning around on this one after 2 miles..(my tire/bumper was not the grim reaper here, just a curious-george passerby seeing something at 72 mph that caught my attention.)

fantastic roadkill find. One time I had a mallard smash my headlight out and took a 300 mile trip with me before I noticed it.. Day light of course

I watched a pair of mallards bounce off a windshield one spring day and I pulled over and grabbed them, drake had a band and they both were tasty for supper.

Many years ago I was driving back from MT to Bismarck and there was some water in the ditch on interstate. It was spring and a pair of ducks took off from one side of the road and I clipped the hen which was flying behind the drake and slightly lower, just with the top corner of my windshield. It spun around a couple times and landed flapping on the interstate behind me, which I could see in my rear view. Drake did a 180 and immediately landed by its partner on the road just before a semi flattened them both. Didnt appear it even attempted to take off as the truck went over them. Kinda crazy, true love I guess.... ;:;badidea

Did you spot that band at 72mph? ::laughing::

i sure did and the funny thing is another buddy that drove by it that same morning thought he seen the same, but he never pulled a u-e to investigate, another one off the bucket list for me!
Ahab: i just took the pic and kept driving, after that mount or picture thread i just figured it was the way to go. Didnt feel like getting duck guts on top of my stinky pike hands..

Whats Blang?

Fishmission absolutely nailed it! Bling is a well-earned gift for hard work put in vs blang being won by drawed straws over disputed shooters in the field or good ole fashioned luck.. Oh if i could go back and be 10-27 again in the waterfowl world!! (Honestly blang is just a made up sarcastic term to go with the rap times, stay thirsty my friends)

did you call it in yet? When and where was it banded?
I will eventually but may wait a few months..

You can go do it now this happens all the time all over the country especially where they band park ducks and geese and is a big part of the reason they have found as an option when reporting. I don't always check the ducks and geese but if I spot a dead pelican even a half mile out time to go for a walk. Those damn things are banded at an insane level out at chase lake so odds are like one in six in some groups i run into and they are often double banded with a plastic taurus band being the second.

No pics lycan but heres my story and I am sticking to it.
This morning on my way to Forks, I passed a chevy pickup with a sticker in the window. It wouldn't have been such a big thing but it said St. John Woodchucks which is a thread title on NDA. As I am pulling into the driving lane ,a grouse hit my windshield and flew over my car landed on the pavement and was ran over by the pickup i just passed. The bird landed directly in the path of the drivers front tire. A guy could of tried that a 1000 times and maybe duplicated once. Crazy especially since NDA has a topic on such an experience.

The exact same thing happened to me on I-94 about 10 years ago around this time of year. At 75-80 mph i passed a dead mallard drake laying along the road. A flash caught my eye. I exited circled back around to the bird and sure enough it was banded. Hacked the leg off with a pocket knife and left the rest.

observing two cases of this in our little sample group is proof that banding screws with a duck's ability to fly - stop this midieval practice now

Extra weight on one side makes them fly in circles, or slow for lift off.
