Where do they go after fledging? They must go north for some type of food - then start trickling back through? There’s a month or so in summer I never lay eyes on one.

I've only run into one woolly worm this fall but he thought it will be a cold start into winter and then another cold snap right before spring. He was mostly grayish with long guard hair , I don't know if that if means anything to anyone or if it should be in the worthless information thread.

All I know for sure is when I was a kid in pre computer days old timers took great pride in predicting winters and winter was the talk of the town this time of the year.

We have a lot in are yard right now. When the berry's are gone they will leave. 2 yrs ago we had lots of berry's and had 3 winter. The sump pump would flow about 20 ft from the house. When the water would flow they would go down and it would be a big bird bath for them. It would be a blizzard and the weather didn't bother them.

Yeah, there's a certain percent that are here through the winter. Not sure if they are local birds or if it's the crew from their most northern extent in Canada-land, but I have had some at my place and there are plenty around the Capitol here in Bismarck all through winter.
