Fishing in LA.

Just got back a couple of days ago with the lady friend and new editor of the Times Record here in town. Great time and the waist line is showing it as I think I put on 8 pounds worth of Crawfish, Boudain, Pistolettes and ettouffe. Got in a little Cajun music at Fred’s lounge in Mamou for good measure as well.
I also got in a chance to do a little fishing while I was there. Weird law they have is if you are fishing on a private pond, no license is needed at all. She has a friend that had a nice little pond of bream (what they call panfish) and bass and we got a chance to do some inshore fishing out of Lake Charles as well. Kind of a windy day making it tough to catch anything but got a couple of Redfish and a Sheepshead. Not an eater but it was pretty cool to see first hand the fish with human teeth. Just don’t stick your fingers in there like you’re lipping a bass or you might not get your fingers back!

We go to the gulf in Alabama every year in the winter. Drive home through Louisiana to change up the scenery. Talking about doing a tuna trip either out of Gulf Shores or maybe Venice LA one year. Caught some redfish that were to big to keep, a bunch of red snapper that were out of season, and enough sheepshead for a few meals. Great tablefare! The food down there is outstanding. Stopped in Louisiana at a little market to bring some boudin home this year.

Good Stuff!! Caught a few of them myself. Those "people" teeth on sheepshead are bonkers. First time I caught one, I had a hard time not staring. Awesome table fare too.
