Yup, dad said no robbins, but my brother shot them and so I did. Our mamma cat took care of the evidence.

The best was the Red Wing black birds, go out in a slough where they were nesting and drop them as they hovered over you .

I wonder how many of those 500 count tubes of BB's I went through as a kid. Wore out more than one BB gun in my time . Sure was fun when I graduated to a .22

My Dad would buy us each one tube every Saturday…it was hell trying to pace ourselves, we usually ran out in a couple days.

Anyone remember the TIN soda and beer cans? That MFer would blow a hole through that and rip out the back side so where I could fit 3 little kid fingers in it. It wouldn't even move the can!

This thread is bringing back so many memories and how lucky I feel growing up on a farm...How about sparrows? I know for some reason they are much less in concentration now as years past but man were those the "approved go to from pa" when it came to have fun son and shoot the bird BUT make sure you give the prize to the barn cats, it was game on...I am 47 just to put it in context...

I shot & breasted an Eastern Kingbird, grilled it with a mustard shmear...then it became a
yellow and white North Dakota Kingbird!
