Watch yourselves out there fellas. Lots of slush on top of the ice covered in this new layer of snow. Broke through the ice coming off the lake into about 2 ft of water as I neared the access point. Puckered my backside, slowly added the gas, and crawled out through the ice and mud. NOT a good feeling when the front end dropped through. My ice season is DONE for this year. Be Safe Guys!!!

Ice conditions gonna be changing quickly now...just looked at the next 10 days for Garrison...coldest low at night was 20...highs in the upper 30's to mid 40's. Not gonna be making any more ice...that's for sure!

Yeah that sucks...glad you were in close and made it out ok. I hate that even when you know it is safe...I had a small crack form by the cabin over New Years...ice was 16” and it was -40 outside but hitting a little slush on top isn’t my idea of fun.

KDM, I'll keep you posted on river conditions here in Bismarck. If you don't mind the drive I'm willing to share the boat with you.

You're ON!! Haven't fished the river in Bismarck ever. Thanks for the offer. Just give me a day or two notice and I'll be there.

Two weeks left to drive on safely with a wheeler and I bet another 3 weeks of sketchy ice fishing by walking on

Make sure you stay away from the access areas where dirt, sand and salt have tracked onto the ice . I've seen 18'' of good ice out in the middle and open water where vehicles had driven.

Or worse yet , A skim of fresh snow over a skim of new ice . Bottom felt good and I only got wet up to my ears but it sure was cold.

For me last weekend was the last time my truck is driving on a lake. Glad everything went ok in the end. With the extended forecast it looks like other hobbies will be replacing ice fishing for this guy

Did a little northern fishing in Garrison bay today. Walked on at 9 this morning, snow was deep, 20 to 24 inches at the shore line and 12 to 16 inches out farther, ice was a solid 3 feet when we drilled holes. At the shore line there was at least 6 inches water under the snow if not more. Came off at 3 and there was even water in some spots under the snow out farther.
