Soo many talents you have. A scientologist, herbologist, geographologist, grammerologist, and a rescuerologist. Me tips mine hat to you!!!!We did that - and I was the lone guy with a functioning GPS on my snowmobile in our group.
Drove several miles to the ramp - leading a group of others. Trying to watch that tiny GPS screen and not lose anyone in the group sure did suck.
This was before cell coverage on Big Windy - and an unexpected strong wind cold front picked up snow and ground blizzarded us.
One other group with a younger boy headed back in too. They had started from a half mile away from us. They had to pitch up for a while and get heaters going in flip-up when they lost a belt on the snowmobile. After warming up they wrestled what ended up being the wrong size belt into place and limped in.
Waiting for them back on shore and wondering what was gonna happen was awful. I still feel queasy/ugh all these years later.
I posted this pic fo LB,he's the offical site boobie authority.

One of the best things to do is be flexible on mode of travel on the ice. Don't decide until a day or two before you go up. Allot of times you can get around in trucks,, most guides use them. You might be able to use and atv or utv with tires or you might need tracks. Snowmobiles are handy as well but early and late you might need scratchers. Don't leave anything not enclosed that you don't want to lose. The ice is very rough and it'll beat the shit out of your gear, go slow and don't be in a hurry. Gps is a must.Anyone going up for the first time should look at the Lake Winnipeg report on facebook so you know what to expect and what to bring. I've never been there but I can see from here that she's a beast. Besides the pressure ridges people get stuck or vehicle won't start.
Then wait until they are low on fuel before they call for help . Seems like the locals are good to help but it would suck having to call them. I'd bring enough to stay comfortable for a few days if need be.
