Anyone use starlink, I don't have fiber optic line to my work and need internet service. Local internet says tbey canf get me a line till this summer and would like a better internet connection now. Been using my phone but I only have so much data and it's super slow. I did order a new Samsung phone so that might help with the super lag but I still only have so much hot spot data.

I've had it for quite sometime and have no complaints. Was 90 bucks but went up to $120 a couple of months ago. I think I paid about $450 for the equipment.

I think Elon and I are going to be business partners this year and I’m going to get starlink for the camper. Not terrible cost and you can just shut it off and I can put it in a gun case and take it in the fall and winter hunting and fishing.

Have been using it in my job trailer for almost 2 years. So nice not to deal with local fiber companies to get a connection for only a year. Haven’t ever not had service and always fast as fiber. Verizon hotspot always disconnects from laptop when leaving trailer, that’s why i ultimately switched

Sadly it would probably cost lives. It's a major part of the world's infrastructure. From banking, electricity, and medicines just to name a few.

Used it at a fishing lodge on the coast of British Columbia. Excellent service and way better that their previous provider.

I'm tempted to get one and when I go camping charge anyone who wants to login to my wifi a surcharge.

I wonder how far a guy could get the Wi-Fi to broadcast and pick up?

Does starlink replace a cell phone service? A one bill for all would be a nice benefit.

I have WiFi calling on my cell, so if I can login to a Wifi I'd be good.

Starlink is great, had it for about a year at the new house until RTC was able to get fiber run up to the house. Didn't really have much for issues as far as streaming/normal usage goes. If you are a gamer, it may not be the greatest for FPS games or anything where a stable connection is a must. Not sure if it has changed since we got out fiber, but back when we had it there was the occasional drop in service that screwed up a game I was playing.. Don't know if this was because the dish was establishing a link to a new satellite or what. Other than that, SL was freaking great.
As was mentioned in post #4, SL did just announce a beta test beginning I believe today for T-Mobile users that basically turns your cell phone into a Satellite phone... no more dead spots.... anywhere... Even without cell service, you could theoretically turn on your Wifi calling and still make calls... if nothing else, you could at least use Facebook or any of the other SM services that have calling as an option to contact people with the StarLink service.

Will be interesting to see how The beta test goes...

Great Info! How far from the SL receiver can you go before the WiFi won't be available for a laptop?

So I want to put this in the 5th wheel for the summer, can I line it out for just a 4 month service. What does the initial set up all entail and cost?

I believe the cost for a new kit is now $350, which is down significantly from the $500 I paid 3+ years ago. It looks like they do have a couple different options for plans, 1st one is the residential.. $120/month, unlimited data and it's essentially just month to month... Since you pay for the gear up front theres no real need for long term contracts...

The other package is like a "Roaming" package. U can use it anywhere, doesn't matter if you move around a bunch. They have a 50gb/month package for $50, or an unlimited package for $165...

If your just looking to use it at the lake and thats it, not move the dish around and use it in different places, I would do the residential plan for $120/month + equipment. You can turn it on and off whenever you want and as often as you want.... They do also have refurbished equipment packages available as well for $199. I know when SL first came out you could have the residential package and go wherever you wanted and use it, but I don't know if they have made any changes to stop that...

As far as range goes, just think of it as a normal wifi network. Thats essentially what it is. Package will have the rectangular satellite dish, a little post and a base, as wel as a long ass cord and a router. Run 1 cord from the dish to the router and power up the router and your in business.... I think it only took me like 10 minutes to set it up at the house when we had it....

Oh and just for reference the speeds are pretty good too. Every time I ran speedtest.net I was usually in the 350-500 mbps range for my download speeds and 100+mbps upload.....

They also prorate the service. Turned mine on January 17 and they only charged me $60 for remaining month. Speed has been excellent during summer at DL and great this winter at Sak and DL. Highly recommend! As others have said just pay for equipment and you can pause and resume service at anytime with no additional fees. I have been able to work out of the camper with PC and web based phone service while wife streams TV. Low latency is also a benefit. I use unlimited plan which was $150 and now $160 a month.
