You mean "Dress like a pirate" Bike week. I find it kind of funny how these people dress different just to ride a motorcycle. If you have to change your clothing attire from what you wear every day, you might be a poser. Unless you wear a bandana and spurs every day.

I guess I am not sure of what you are getting at... 121313middle1.jpg

Yeah we are going to Kidrock Sunday night at the chip. A buddy has a nice home in Lead, so we will likely ride around that area when not in Sturgis.

JR,
Check out Lewie's Bar and Eatery west of Lead on your way to Spearfish Canyon Road. Good burgers and has some neat things to look at in every room. Also check out Sugar Shack south of Deadwood on 385. Great burgers. Small place on west side of road when heading south.

If I was to ride a motorcycle for any distance, I'd have leathers on. I don't fault them for that. Growing up, I had a neighbor that would ride his harley to work every night. He had to dump it to avoid smacking a deer. The only thing that saved his skin was those leathers. They do serve a purpose.

yeah full leathers can serve a purpose, but chaps and a leather vest are really pretty pointless. Especially when you protect your head with american flag doo rag.

Jees, why all the hate. I once joked about a guy wearing orange hats, vests, pants, gloves etc. to hunt some pheasants, as I just wear a pair of jeans and what ever shirt, or jacket I happen to put on, and I was lambasted as a jack ass for questioning someone wanting to be safe and wear all the jazzy orange.

If I put on a leather jacket, and leather boots to ride, that is somehow being a poser? I guess I should take an 800 lbs piece of machinery 80 mph down the highway in my flip flops and swim trunks.... haha

It is funny to see a doctor who you know suddenly get all leathered up, I get your point, but it serves more of a purpose than just trying to look like a hells angel.

I also like the guy that puts his spiffy new orange hat on the dash for 4 months, what a poser...:::

I saw 3 of these dudes out on Devils Lake , It made me chuckle. I should have snapped a picture and posted it on here. The world would be pretty boring if we were all dressed like Amish. I was working in Custer one summer during bike week saw all sorts of new stuff I hadn't saw before , Hot chicks wearing chaps was neat , They had good knee protection but not so much rear end protection. Bike week isn't for me but to those that like it, Go have fun and dress however you damn well please. You only go around once, Might as well make the best of it.

Owned a bike for 10 years. Went to Sturgis once because my buddy had a cabin by Lead. I didn't really fully partake in Sturgis, mostly just rode the hills and stopped by roadside bars and watched the scenery. Was a good time to do it once, not sure id ever need to go back. Whatever the hobby there are people who buy fully into the marketing and take things to far. As long as they aren't complete ass-hats, who gives a damn what they look like or spend their money on. How is the guy wearing leathers around different than the guy who wears camo or a HUK shirt around town...or even a football jersey for that matter?

What makes me laugh isn't the guys who are really dressed for safety in full leathers, boots, helmets, etc but the guys who are wearing chaps, a short sleeve "Sturgis 2006" t shirt (often sleeveless) a leather vest and a bandana on their head when they go "ride". even funnier when the old lady is on the back in shorts and a tank top, and doo rag of course. And often they are the same guys wearing khakis and a polo 99% of the time when you see them off their bikes.
I work with about 5 of those types and I live to give them crap this time of the year.

Might head down to the Hills for a couple days as we have our toyhauler down there for the summer. Would like to see Sturgis once for bike week just to say we did it. We are having to wait for our insurance companies letter to see how we fared from the hail storm so we can get our house fixed. Man they are slow but want their premium right now.

Exactly. Get all geared up to ride is fine. Walking around in full leathers in 100 degree heat is just stupid. I've rode bikes for 40 years. Started when I was 6. Ridden Harley's for 27. Wear what you want. It's just a little goofy to me to dress a different way just to ride your bike. I wear jeans and a tshirt most days. That's what I ride with. Maybe a sweatshirt if it's cool out. Yea, if I crash it probably won't be so good but that's my problem I guess. I do own full leathers. Just don't wear them too often.

Documentation of success in his career vs wrecks: I still hate "13": Pisses me off more how his wreck in England ("13") is easy to find on Utube and his success with "14" in Ohio is degraded to this effing garbage crap shi'ite: I guess making us all furry socialists started back then:

I wonder how he feels today after putting his body through all that hell.

I had an evel Knievel lunch box as a young lad, guy was somewhat of an American Hero as I remember it.

Pretty sure he is feeling no pain , He died about 10 years ago, He and the Marlboro man were both a bad influence on me when I was a kid. His Son Robbie still jumps some I think, He was jumping in Vegas a few years ago in fact I should look it up, I think Robbie jumped the Snake river canyon that his Dad failed to clear. My Dad sat and BS and had a couple drinks with Evil in a small town bar In Montana where he was from.

My uncle dumped his Harley on a cool fall day on a paved road, he gave me the coveralls he was wearing at the time. I used them in the barn for milking cows. Could wear them year round for all the dammed holes in them. Question, why is it when you dump a bike you end up in front of it ,then it catches up to you and grinds your ass into the ground.

experienced riders seldom do... you should always "low side" if at all possible, meaning pulling the bike back and falling behind it rather than "high side" it and go over the top with you and the bike rolling... even a 300# bike will clear a spot for you to follow fairly well at speed...

i had scooters for many years and did sturgis for bout 15 years... last time was prolly 10 years ago... just outgrew it i guess, but had a lot of fun down there over the years... i wore whatever i wanted there and everywhere, and never gave 2 shits what anyone else thought... i quit going when the pasties and kids started showing up on main street, and there were more campers than tents in the campgrounds... showing up with a dirty bike used to be a badge of honor... when i quit, there were bikes from cali and florida rolling in with less than 100 miles on them, and not a bug on the bikes or leathers...

sturgis had grown too big for the biker, and started charging what the wing tips could afford... that was all for me... but, it is all relative... those who go - rip it up and enjoy, as it is as fun and wild as it will ever b for you, and that is what's important...

dilligaf... :;:cheers
