Kicked over the alfalfa bale that's been in the backyard all winter for the deer that never showed up and this is what happened. Apparently there were "bird seeds" in that bale and they all sprouted this morning. Kind of unsettling in a way.

Were they around all winter or did they just show up ? We had a big flock flock of juncos show up 2 days ago and attack anything that looks like a meal. No idea where they hang out for cold part of the winter .

Just showed up a couple days ago with the junco brigade, but not this many. I think the several flocks heard there was food here and they all came to party.

Had a bunch of pheasants scratching at my corn pile in the yard this morning. The deer just showed back up last week...i will need a couple more 5 gallon pails tonight to keep them all happy for a few days.

I've been feeding the local magpies and had them coming in every day on the deck about but at an angle so there was window glare for pictures, I moved the feeder table about 5 feet one day and they haven't been back since. There was other food in the yard they had claim to till 3 ravens showed up and ran them off. Now the ravens are guarding the food and teasing the magpies. Maggies are pacing back and forth cursing at them. Funny in the summer , Sparky the cat will be laying outside trying to take a nap or walking in the yard and the magpies have a blast teasing and pecking at him and chattering . They sure are fun to watch .

Oh yea , I almost forgot , Wife saw and got a picture of 4 wild turkeys in the yard this morning. The first ones we have saw on the farm since about 1970 . She saw one or two toms and about 10 hens.
