i'm looking at rebuilding and going through my old tipups or finding another system... i know there are a bunch of newer setups now that do the same thing, and thinking of trying a different way... i'd like to get some to use with cheaper jigging rods so i didn't have to get down on the ice and do the old hand over hand technique anymore - it's getting harder to get up...

what have you used and recommend / not...

thanks...

Not exactly sure what they're called but the Wisco boys litter the ice with some type of "tippy stick" contraption that might be worth looking into. They seem to sit higher up.

I tinkered with an HT Icerigger last year a little bit. Seemed to work fine as long as the line doesn't freeze in the hole. There is an eyelet to run a ice anchor into

Ifish Pro is another alternative but they are expensive. I've resorted to using HT Enterprise Lift N Hook rod holder and a slip bobber as they are cheap and take up very little space. The one downside is that there is no flag for bite indication.

I'm not a fan of tip-ups either unless solely using them for pike, which I have never actually done. I prefer to just use a slip bobber and open the bail on my reel. Caught many fish using this method. Yes the hole will freeze, but like to walk around every 15-20min and stay loose anyways so I just reopen them in passing.

Hard to beat the old windlass if temps are high enough. Almost always some breeze.

I like and use the hot box (no sexual jokes please). You can have a rattle reel or a rod and real set up they come with heaters for cold days. The heater uses one pound tanks but I also use the little stereo cans like you see at a buffet line. JT Outdoors has a web cite for them. I like these much better than tip ups and I suck using tip ups anyway

I still prefer the Frabill insulated tip-ups. Even for walleye.
There is something very fun about hand-lining a walleye in.

I Fish Pro is fun to use but they suck to carry around. too big to fit in a pail and they don't ride nice in a sled.

I usually set up 2 tipups outside of my fish house and have a couple combos inside, thing that I didnt like was always getting up to check on them.I am hard of hearing so the strike sensors werent loud enough for me.This fall I bought the blu tipz trasnmitters,so now when the tip up goes off my phone rings and vibrates via bluetooth, sure beats jumping up every few minutes to check them!!
Over the years I think I have tried most every type of tipup, but keep using the traditional beaverdam paired with a hole cover.
The Ifish pro's do look good but like said a little bulky.

I like to do the 6” Tbar hook set no more getting up. Sometimes when the tip up is near shore the hookset is also the fight when you are in 4’ of water.

I have some I fish pros and I use a milk crate to tote them around. May be able to fit one more or get the rectangle crate to fit even more.

The only thing I don’t like is I can’t seem to get them set as light as I would prefer for light bites. Bitter cold and iced up reels also make these hard to use.

The Frabill original thermal tip ups are the way to go. They seem to work better than the new ones in the store.

Arctic Warrior Tip ups.

Cheaper and no hand over hand. Use your own rod and reel set up.
