Stop at a trailer sales place, have them connect the new receptacle and get your ass out there fishing.

Probably cost you $30, and save you the bs trial and error.

Well I'm going fishing, but the people behind me keep honking for some reason.

oops - got sucked into seven pin thought

it's still not clear to me what your goal is - to install a new 5 pin on the trailer side because of the bad backup pin? What's strange is your backups are working. So I am guessing you should check quality of your 7 pin connector - both truck and trailer side. Lots of times my old 7 pin would get corroded/crappy - even more often than a 4 pin.

check your lightbulbs and ground wires at the light fixtures if your 7 pin is OK

my 5-7 pic still serves to demonstrate that you follow position/function - colors often are different and unreliable

also - you can get horrible corrosion inside the injection molded rubber of the 4, and 5-pin plugs - pins look OK but wire-to-pin connection is badly corroded inside the rubber molded part - maddening

Bad pin on the trailer side. My intention was to just replace that portion and go on about my way. However, I cannot find a 7 wire to 5 pin flat connector anywhere. So, if I can just splice those two pink/red wires together, I'd be happy with that...for a quick fix.

Does anyone have recent experience of the law stopping them because of bad trailer lighting? Since them dang trailer lights seem to cause problems for most everyone..i am curious if the long arm of the law realizes this and sends a person off with a "GET IT FIXED" warning or throws the book at them. I haven't had any recent experience...there I did it..jinxed myself.

I got pulled over last summer by our new cop on town. He said your lights don't work I told I know. Asked him if he could see my pickup lights and he said yes. I told him that was good enough and he sent me on my way. He was behind me atleast 5 other times after that last summer and never stopped me again. Mabey I will fix them this year.

Haha. We could run a series of wires to a couple lights and toggle switches and you could just flick em on and off for turning and on for break lights and have a couple more for running lights. AWESOME! Let's do it!

We could get an inverter and you could plug in your neon Busch light sign for break lights.

I got pulled over in Washburn last year because I had blow a fuse for the third time that wee. The officer said he's seen several boats get rear ended and I should turn on my emergency lights for added saftey. He then told me the same thing the next weekend. I finally found that damn fuse this spring.
