The only way to combat this behavior is to report it and pursue prosecution if possible. Some legislators and the Stockmen's association are trying to prep for another run at a "Trespass Law" in the upcoming legislative session. A group of us met with Steinwand and Stockmen in early August, so we know it's coming. They have also threatened to sue the State over this law. It's time for sportsmen to come together. We need to police ourselves as the first step in combatting a trespass law.

It is important to note that the revived discussion about a Trespass Law started in April 2018 with Lt. Governor Sanford, so you can bet that the Governor's office is clearly NOT supporting sportsmen on this issue. I urge you to start contacting your legislators immediately after the election so they know how you feel about the issue.

Was Gabe there?

First of all, this guy obviously doesn't care about trespass laws as he already went by or took down posted signs so naturally making another law will fix the problem. So explain to me how making another law will prevent anything?? I had trespassers when I first acquired land and it took some effort, but I finally caught them in the act, called the sheriff, NOT the warden as trespassing is a civil code and not a game code, and had them cited for trespassing. Then I sent the official paperwork to the game and fish as proof they were hunting on posted land, which is a game violation, and had them cited for that. Amazingly, no more issues have come up since. As I said before, A trespass law is nothing but an anti-hunting initiative with no connection to trespassing. We already have trespass laws and creating a new law will do absolutely nothing to prevent trespassing.

Yeah if you have his plates I'd say you should contact the warden asap and prosecute. People like this are what ruins it for us. A hefty fine will likely wake this asshat up.

Agree with the ol' wise one here. Caught a known trespasser a few years ago on camera and called the local game warden...he wouldn't do anything and knows this trespasser well. He said it was out of his hands and to call the sheriff to deal with the matter. He did not tell us anything though about sending the game and fish paperwork to add a game violation to his trespass violation. Would have been good to know then.

just to clarify, the missing posted sign was a separate incident. Not the picture of the man unless i missed that he tore signs down too.

I hunt unposted land a lot and if there is any doubt that the landowner does not want anyone there (partial posting, torn off paper, even a bare placard) we stay off the land and/or try to find landowner information which can be extremely difficult to find. People that rip signs down or go onto posted land won't stop if there is a no trespass law, it would just hurt the ones that abide by the rules.

Contact the sheriff and go after that guy.

Own land , takes time to put posters up, not sure if it stops those that intend to go anyways,
But for reasons would vote against the rule of all land posted even though it would benefit me. db

my concern as a landowner is that I’m not that sure what they propose will truly benefit us

like many issues it’s a social attitude thing - and it’s not clear to me how the losers in the bunch will react

will they say “screw it... it’s all posted now - I might as well just risk it on the best crap out there”... and throw care to the wind and be even more brazen?

- - - Updated - - -

or they won’t know who cares and who doesn’t... at least now the unposted land takes some of the pressure off the land that is

I do know that you’ll have to keep up with signs and enforcement as much if not more than before... in MN I see most properties posted like ours in ND.... why?... if there’s no trespass by default???

really?... good grief that seems complicated to define in many landscapes where it’s a hodgepodge mix (ideal hunting)
