Meh...give up your pay, your holidays off, your vacation, your weekends off, your benefits then you can say that. Do I think all unions are good? Absolutely not..but I do believe some have there place. These companies are not looking to save you money by making things more efficient that's for dam sure. Everyone has thier own agenda...just depends how you want to look at it.

The companies and news organizations want to bash these unions but I don't think people understand when the contract is up with the union they can be replaced by anything and anyone..so another words these companies could replace ALL workers with all the automation they want..there is no contract therefore there is nothing holding each party to having to work...the company can lock out the worker and the worker by not agreeeing to a contract is no longer employed...yet the companies choose not to replace..why is that?

Don't know if it's still true but for years the Chicago construction standards wouldn't allow machine placed concrete curb & gutter - had to all be hand formed and hand poured to keep more people on the payroll.

That wouldn't surprise me if true. There was an interview Tucker Carlson did and the topic of automation came up. I will have to see if I can find it. They asked him about it and to my surprise he said peoples well being are more important then automation. Said along the lines that if he were president he would push for companies to have to double the job in another are of their business with equal pay for each job automation took away. I was pretty surprised he said that. If I remember correctly Ben Shapiro was interviewing him. Point in being.. you would be surprised how many Republicans are against automation removing people from the work force.

Labor unions vs. trade unions, make sure you know the difference in this thread!

Trade unions play a huge role in our every days lives....like keeping our coal-powered power plants operating reliably and building our roads and buildings. These guys bust their asses so we live & work comfortably.

Unskilled labor unions can be a different story.

In 1965 the CEO to regular employee pay ratio was $15-$1. In 1989 it was $44-$1. In 2021 it was $399-$1. Be interesting what this ratio is 4 years from now.
This can also show on a graph with a reduction in unions....eventually we will be on a level playing field with Mexico and China...

Never mind. From AI.
In Oregon, you can choose to pump your own gas or have an attendant pump it for you, depending on the gas station and your location:

  • Self-service
Gas stations are not required to offer self-service, but they can. In the state's largest counties, no more than half of the pumps can be self-serve, and at least one attendant must be available at all times.

Self-serve wasn't an option in Oregon until 2015. I think it went state-wide and time of day restrictions went away sometime around 2017.

If you have ever poured curb and gutter by hand you know their well being isnt taken into account.
